I received a text from Scott a few minutes ago with the bad news. Scott has asked me to report that the Randall shop is closed to the public and, indeed, totally closed due to multiple knife makers having contracted Covid 19.
Not just "testing positive" but they are actually out sick with it...all of them! The severity runs from moderate to more severe. I will not disclose any names but let's wish them all well and a speedy recovery, pray for the health and well-being of everyone who has been in contact with them...(Including the Ol' Captain).
I'll post more if and when more details are forthcoming.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: So...for those of you who think this crap ain't real...or "don't know anybody who has caught this virus"...There ya' go...CCS

Terrible news, Captain. Will be praying for a swift recovery for the Randall crew and for no further spread in the shop (or to you). Read this AM that the number of positive tests in Florida equates to 1 in 50 of our population. Have also read the actual infections could be 10 times higher. So, potentially 1 of 5 people we come in contact with here in Fla. has, or has had, the virus. And there are still idiots (yes, I said it) out there arguing about masks?

Pulling for all of them.

It is really difficult to totally avoid exposure....

And it is hard to get across to some of our friends how if they are exposed to one person they are also exposed to everyone in the universe that person was exposed to.

Stay hunkered down if you can, and you and yours wear masks whenever you are around people not from your own home.

The mask and avoiding people are the only protection we have at this time.

Larry

Even with all precautions there's no guarantee of avoiding Covid. Since mid-March my wife and I have remained in the house and have not visited with family or friends. Have gone out only once a week for groceries (and one doctor visit). Have worn masks, washed and sanitized hands, maintained social distance in store, etc. Needless to say, somehow we both have it. Thank God it hasn't been critical enough for hospitalization, but it's at least as severe as a bad case of the flu.
...and when will we be able to smell coffee again?

I took the lovely Elizabeth to a Dr. appt. this morning. Every single, solitary person went in with a mask on...and every single one opened the door to go in...and re-opened it on their way out with their bare hands! I think hanging around "anything" medically-related or the friggin' grocery store is the equivalent of hangin' around a snot factory.
I hope you both get over this quickly Steve.
Best, Capt. Chris

Per Capt. Chris's post...

Originally we were told just to maintain distance and wash hands. Still important to do both.

It took them too long to actually tell us that breathing it in or getting it in the eyes through airborne is an easy way to catch it...and to wear masks. A little protection is better than none.

People are leaving mail and packages in hot garages or in the sunlight for 2 or 3 days to kill the virus before they bring things into the house.

We and others wipe down all items brought from the store or elsewhere before brining them into the house.

And medical offices I have been to have "some" procedures in place, some not as preventative as others.

Sorry to say, but even taking as many precautions as possible we can still catch it. I hope nobody else on here, but will not be surprised if certain family and friends we know get sick because of their own behavior or their need to work where not all precautions might be taken.

Randall folks added for new prayers that continue for other folks, as the “prayer list” continues to grow. This pandemic is making following our Lord’s commandment to “pray without ceasing” easier to follow. My own prayers include, of course, the many times daily prayers are said for so many people to decrease their stupidity and increase their common sense and kindness toward others; and to increase their ability to tell the difference between the “big problems” and the “doesn’t even make the problem list.”
To watch as so many get caught up in incredibly big disagreements re: whether or not to wear a mask when so many folks are unemployed, watching their savings go to zero as they worry re: being able to provide food and shelter, becoming incredibly ill &/or dying, etc. etc. is truly stretching sane folks’ tolerance to the limits.
Please.....just wear the damn mask. And pray.

Prayers have been appreciated! We had 1/4 of the shop come down with the virus, ranging from mild to pretty severe, seems the "aged" ones were more afflicted...all are improving, we expect to be near done with this by the end if the month. Been running this week on a skeleton crew, and they've been working like one-legged men in an a$$ kickin' contest! (thanks to Cap for this analogy)

I spoke with Scott a couple of days ago and was thinking the shop would be "close to normal" next week sometime. I certainly hope so. I don't know any total numbers but RMK took it on the chin with Covid 19...that's for sure!
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris
