Nothing better than a great Randall user, actually being used for what it was made for. Love that used Model 3. It still rocks.

I like Rocky's (well: now Rocky's Son's) 7 spacer knife! Here's my absolute favorite 7 spacer and my favorite stiletto in my "Stash"! #2-6", slab-side elephant ivory, separate "S"!
Keep 'em coming folks.

All these are quite nice!!
It's hard to have just one favorite...BUT...that slab ivory from the Capt....well that is simply amazing!!!
I sold some Ivory Randall's for my dad, and his friend...didn't have the money to buy them all...or any for that matter....sure wish I did...even cracked, I think ivory is the best!!!
This is a "modern" one...THAT I do have...silver hardware compliments of silverknife...

This has always been one of my favorite WW2 fighters. It's in a V.L.&A . sheath.

It's an earlier 1943-ish knife. Flat blade grind, small handle, brass chain link. It sports some interesting leather lace work by a previous owner.

Cool knife Mitchell. I like the 2 reinforced rivets as part of that VLA sheath. Unusual pancake of sorts, isn't it.

To be honest, I didn't request any different handle shape, so assume it is straight, although it doesn't look perfectly straight, but that may be why no Randalls are exactly the same. Maybe Scott could chime in. I just know, this is one gorgeous Model 5-8. Very proud to own it.

No guesses on the options on my 5-8? Ok here they are:

Model 5-8" Camp and Trail
Stainless steel blade
Saw teeth
Thumb notches(no charge)
Square top brass hilt(no charge)
Scalloped brass collar
Thuya burl wood handle, shop supplied
Scalloped brass "coolie" butt cap
Waxed, no hone leather sheath

Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks to Dave Harvy, Nordic Knives, Boise, Idaho to make it happen.

Hey Pap, #1 handle shapes with a scalloped buttcap are a little difficult to keep as a standard straight handle because the scallops are put in before shaping and we have to make sure we maintain the edges so as not to grind off them off...also because of how close we shape the front to the collar it tends to be a bit of a "rounded off" look and feel...this handle actually inspired one of the shop employees so much that he placed another order for himself!!

TWO more favorites!
I think that #5 is my most carried Randall.
The Speedmaster is vintage, 1969, so I don't wear it to often.
But ... often enough! smile

I don't think anyone would question you Tom on that front, but I am curious. Is there any identifying etching, butt plate, or any other way to identify them as being re-handled?

There is an unwritten agreement with the shop that BMK is supposed to identify their re-andle jobs in some fashion. Last I was told they were putting a butt plate on.

Called Billy to congratulate him on the 2 new Stanaback’s. He could not talk due to drooling and fondling.
Great pair Brother.

Looked last night there is no butt plate/etching; the edge is a live edge which shows the tusk bark.

Tom, did all of the handles come from one tusk? Those are great looking for sure.
Thanks for sharing. I've said it before but this is an awesome place to see and learn!

Thanks guys!

The six in the one picture came from that tusk, which I purchased from David Warther (except for the Bowles/Hedrick Tri-Athlete w/edge grind detail Smooth Narwhal).

The pair are from a set of three-First RMK Narwhal Ivory-Bear Bowie# 001 1 of 3 in this series & First RMK Narwhal Ivory-Model# 1 Arctic Fighter-Brass Double Lugged Hilt & Narwhal Handle with Butt Plate# 001 2 of 3 in this series. The third one(I have not identified)I have not found; still looking.

The TC Special is the only one I have ever seen in Narwhal-NS Double FCH w/Narwhal & Smooth Scalloped NS Butt Cap

There was a set that I saw at Blade a long time ago that was an extraordinary collection in a display case (14 knives!). There was also another collection shown in a picture on the Forum as Narwhal Heaven (21 knives!), and both of these were what got me started in my search for Narwhal.

Wow, the Narwhal collections bring back memories.
The Picture with the green background shows the butt caps on the first 3 I started with. Ron Skaggs engraved those 3 with two Narwhals crossing tusks on the butts. The engraving around the edges and on the hilts were of sea waves. All had silver hilts and butts from Doug Cream.
The picture with the blue background is from a display that Doug Cream and I did at Blade Show. We combined our collections for the display. I really got into the Narwhal and silver, but sold them all after the recession in 2008.

I have always liked big knives and it naturally brought me towards the King Faisal Set of knives. Bought a pair of Ivory knives as a set and made a walnut display case.

Those are beautiful sets, and your creativity with the displays is something I admire.
I want to find some space to imitate your ideas.
Great job!
The only wall display I currently have in my office is one that Tom Clinton had made up years ago

Thanks Guys!

David like the etched glass.

I like having the knives on display. You get to regularly see the design differences and the unique customization that CW, Scrim, engraving, hilts and handle shapes can make in a collection.

The memorabilia of the RKS is one of my favorites.

OK: Questions:
Wally: I still have 1 of the other 2 pine cones.
Billy's #10-3" is the 3rd one.
Rocky: That old stag #2-5" would look good with my #2-5" in white pine cone...(but I know you ain't selling it)!
I'll post the 2-5" (other) pine cone later on.
There now: Let's keep it rolling!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

Thanks Tom.
They're not as fancy as most of the great knives on this thread but I like them.
I can't take credit for the idea of the NASA. That goes to the Capt.
I saw it on his table at a gun show a few years ago and had to have it.

George, was the black split-back sheath factory black or dyed by the owner? Normally you can see tan inside the stone and knife pockets. Great looking old 14.

I admire many of the knives on this thread. These three knives are my favourite RMK. The reason being they were all given to me, by people on this Forum.
Yes I have Ivory, FI, very early RMK, old brown pinned, etc., but the kindness my friends showed, by giving me these knives, makes them my favourites.

Much like my friend Rod, ALL of my favorite RMK swag were gifts. The knives are great, but it will ALWAYS be the people that are my favoritest!
The first Elforyn #10-5", love it so much had Amy make a special pouch for it.
AGM #10-3", in a Gutcher Rattlesnake pouch.
75th anniversary watch.
Christmas Shop knife from A G. Russell
Hat pin.
Messenger bag from Robbin's 8-)

In the last few years, I have become fond of minis and micros.

Each year I would get a couple of Mudbone's custom mini's at Blade Show.

I have found two old mini #1's, not the production run model.

Toss in some Bedgood, Treeman, Lafler, Witsaman, Bodner, and a few unknowns.

There is a quarter in the picture for scale.

That is a neat group of knives.

And they just might be usable.

Wonder who managed to grow miniature stags to drop those horns.

Back in the day, when I was a "Head Knife Judge" at the big Orlando show, I awarded Herald Lafler (well: me and 3 others) the grand prize for his work..."OVER" Tom Leschorn!
Tom's engraving and whittlin' was far superior..."BUT"...(You know me. There's always a "but") Tom's incredible artistry was on a Randall knife. HL's was a 100% "one-man show"!
Sorry to say they're both gone now...
Nice mini collection, Capt. Chris

Thanks for the suggestion; after 47 years in Woodwork all I can say is 'wood has been very very good to me'!

Peter,

Love the Ironwood. You have a great group of Stanaback Special's.

The drop point in Ironwood is a beauty.

BMK Goliath & Fighter Rosewood Burl with Checkering.

The hammer-mark blades and etched finish define the set. James did the pair of knives for me with hammer-mark stainless steel blades!

Hand checkered Redwood Burl (BMK supplied) Pinned, Engraved Copper Hilts, Hammer-marked Stainless Steel Blades, FWI Bolster & Spacer with Basketweave Rowe Sheaths.

The Goliath comes with a 12" blade (it looks bigger) it makes the SW Bowie look like a pocket knife.

Pulled the family out for a touch-up cleaning and group photo.

You can see a couple of club knives and a couple of forum builds.

I started this wild ride right at five and a half years ago (Dec 2014).

And as soon as I posted this, I found two that I missed. One is the forum build Stanaback special with Thuya burl.

Guess I'll have to take another pic. shucks.

It's blue maple burl. I just got off the phone with Brother Billy and got his white balance reset but he, like me, did an update on his computer to Windows 10...from 7 and he's got a ways to go to get all of his settings back on this planet but that's a fine piece of lumber!
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Here's some interesting wood. I'm not huge on collecting big knives. Don't get me wrong. I have a few but nothing like Tom. This is a favorite of mine. A Thorp with nickel silver hilt, collar and cap...and stabilized "Green Box Elder". It came out nice, I think.
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

While many of our forum members don't know, you have one of the premier Randall and Behring knife collections around. Very impressive and I have seen some, but not all, along with meeting and knowing Peter as a friend as well. Not many like him out there.

One of my favorite Randalls.
Model 1-8, Ivory Handle, Only known Randall knife to be scrimmed by W C Shotts, whose scrimshaw is seen at the Heard Museum in Phoenix.
He did this for America's Bicentennial

It is one of the first Randall's I collected in 2004.
I visited the Heard Museum while spending Christmas with my sister in Arizona about 8-10 years ago and was excited to see Shotts' work there.
It currently is on display in my office and gives me a chance to tell people about Randall knives when they see it.
Mitchell, I will give you a call.
Thanks for looking

It is not a VST. Several years ago I made up 10 model #1 fighters and 10 model #3 fighters. Bead blasted for subdued finish, Cerakoted in back and coyote. Matching Kydex sheaths along with the shop sheaths.

You got some nice stuff!!!!!

I like all of the single hilts in your collection.

They say that great minds think alike. Most of my knives are single hilts also.

Thanks for taking the time to get them all out and for sharing!

Some of those are from 1975, and most are users of one time or another. I have probably given away to family and friends, around 12 more. Thanks for all the compliments.

Really nice bunch of knives Pappy. And being as you’ve used most of ‘em once or twice each has a story or two to go with the blade so put your stories in your personal RANDALL DIARIES to go with the blades. Every outstanding blade deserves an outlandish story to go with it. Your grandchildren will appreciate it.

The Captain came through for Christmas, as did the shop. My little different #26 Pathfinder: SS blade, thumb notches, NS hilt squared, all red spacers, black micarta, Wrist thong, pouch sheath. Great little carry Randall.

Really nice Pathfinder Mike, and will really match up nicely with the rest of your collection. Especially like the pouch sheath.

Yes, if the AGM yellow was available, I would have picked it and all black spacers. I'm happy with this replacement. The Shop did a fantastic job.
