Whatever the count is, (pretty sure it's not 7 spacers) it's not standard. So, getting the count right maybe wasn't such a big deal, or could there be another reason? Regardless, it's an oddball.
The SS blade marking would make the blade be 1963 ish vintage. If the handle is leather, the spacers should be 3 thick, 2 thin. Counting problem during assembly??

Looks odd because of one thicker than norm red spacer. There were some thickness variations over the years coming from different suppliers. The further you go back in time, the more often you see them. Likely the guy who assembled this one grabbed some spacer stock that had been sitting in the barrel quite a while. Nice knife.
