A model 5 question/observation

General question/observation for everyone:
A Model 5 comes with thumb notches as standard.(although I have a couple older ones without them). IF you order a double hilt, (making the knife like a fighter) the thumb notches deleted? Makes sense, as you can't use thumb notches with a double hilt.
I never noticed that before.

I posted the answer to this exact question on the "Randall Ordering Knife Questions" thread a couple of years ago, after asking Dirty_Water (Blade Show 2017). short answer: If you order a model that defaults with thumb notches (like, say, Model 5) and add a double-hilt option, they will build your order without thumb notches. Longer answer and subsequent discussion: http://www.knifetalkforums.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=161005#Post161005

I've seen a pic or two of a double-hilted (RMK) knife that also had thumb notches. Can't say "never", but can say "it isn't the norm."

Rod,
I can see that. In fact, I dont think that my #1-8 single hilt has thumb notches.
I even had to take my Large Sasquatch and #12-13 Thorpe (both single hilt) back to the shop to get thumb notches.
But Id like to see ANY double hilt with thumb notches.

Coach, a model one should have the dip in the spine for your forefinger, regardless of single or double hilt configuration.

Maybe like looking for unicorns?
But...if somebody really wants thumb notches on their double-hilt knife, they could just file them in and say they have a rarity.

Thank you Tom and Peter. IF I can get my act together, I will try to do the same with my 5-4's, 6, 7 and 8's.

Middle row, 4th from bottom; is that a Ward Gay handle? Nice collection BTW.

It was a gift to me from 3 friends on this Forum. Because of the thoughtfulness that went into this knife, it is VERY special. Yes it has a Ward Gay handle!

Rod, Would love to see your 6-7-8" Model 5's too. I have an idea that you might have an 8" SS,with lots of goodies on it.

5-7s I put the FI handled one the opposite way because of the fire starter hole.
Mike the 5-6s will be a few days. Most of my knives are 5-6

Thanks Mike. I am getting picky with my Model 5s. Something really has to grab my attention before I go for it. Honestly I need more 5s like I need another hole in my head!! My good wife will confirm the last remark.
