.......... I am taking some liberty by posting this one in the Randall section, but I think a Scagel is in the bloodline. Probably prewar. I love the sheath with this one.

Mitchell,

Never seen a Scagel hatchet; the sheath is in great shape.

Thanks for sharing that one.

There's a couple of Scagel hatchets in the Randall museum featured as part of a collection. I have pics but don't want to post pics if there's any objections from the shop.
They are slightly different than Tune's.
If someone says ok to post, I will do so.

Too cool! I'm trying to understand the function of the larger piece of stitched leather behind the sheath. Is it a pouch? Is there a belt loop on the back?

Thanks for posting!
Only other one I had seen was from Dr. Lucie's collection when it went to the James D Julia auction.

No pouch. Just a pancake back of sorts with a belt loop.

This one will be on the table in Tulsa if it lasts that long!

Thanks DW. Here's a Scagel display from the museum. The two hatchets differ from Tune's. This is one great collection of Scagel knives.

I think Tune's hatchet is pretty unique, the sheath is unusual, ( possibly a VL&A sheath, they also provided their own Randall sheathes during WW2) and the "USA" stamp doesn't seem as common as the "Kris" knives logo of Scagel. His hatchets are rare, a search of the internet will only turn up around 10 examples. Tune's is one of two I can find with a brass pommel ( the other being in the Randall museum) and it's the only one with a lanyard loop on bottom.

Welcome David. Actually the first of the pics I took at the museum. The display is fairly close to where I started my journey. It's definitely heaven's knife mecca for sure. Bring lots of napkins for the drool.

Thanks Tune for the pics. There is so much to see at the museum that you can get overwhelmed. I obviously didnt spend enough time at the Scagel display. Thanks Warren for the pics and the reminder that I need to go back. There is so much more to see then just the great Randall collection.

Welcome Dennis. It was one of my highlights. Many more were to follow. Like I said earlier, bring lots of napkins for the drool.
