That's what Tunefink says to Buck & I. I know, I know. "We Canon Guys" are a different lot. I cannot disagree..."BUT"...just in case this may pose as "new news" to some of you, let me explain.
I got the call from my photo shop 2 days ago. (Yes: We "Canon Guys" have our very own camera shop). After being on the waiting list (with a sizable deposit) for over 90 days, my new camera had arrived. I was "told" (grain of salt) by my salesman that this is the first one in Florida. I have no idea of knowing if this is even remotely close to the truth, but I brought this bad boy home today!
It is so new that I had to buy a lens adapter to fit my "L" series lenses to this body. In the future this new concept will have a small, expensive set of lenses, model specific to this body. At any rate: Canon's new "EOS R" is the 1st, full frame> digital> mirrorless DSLR! It's quite a bit lighter than my Canon EOS 5, MK. II yet has less distortion ratio, probably because of the mirrorless feature.
I'll take it for a test drive in a day or so and let you know my opinions about it but I think it will work quite well.

By the way, "expensive" is a relative term. My meaning of that word is: A crap-lot load of money for a workin' redneck like me! Some of our expert (European, for instance) photographers that post on this forum have gear that costs more than my truck!

I was referring to some of our European forum members (They know who they are) who do this photography professionally. "They" spend serious $$$ on equipment. My rig is going to pan out at about $6,000.00. Some of the afore-mentioned guys pay that (or more) for just one of their lenses!!

I think Buck "might mean" (although it's hard to try & figure out what Buck means) does the film-advance winder require on full stroke or a 2nd.

Goodness....I haven't shot that camera since high school....I'll have to "give it a spin" to see....interesting, didn't know there was a difference...I have a few more, however the M3 was the only one that I actually used....

I just bought a Pentax K-70 this summer. I know its just a point and shoot compared to the equipment that a lot of y'all have but like it. It has an amazing low light capability that I need.
Like the Capt. said. I would love to see the set up that y'all are using to get some of those great photo's that you post here.

Congrats on your high-end camera, Captain. You have a macro lens for close-up shots to go with it? And a really stable tripod, of course? NOBODY needs anything more sophisticated or more expensive. All the rest is lighting. And composition.
I do recommend tethered shooting for more control, though (computer connected to the camera via cable or WLAN).
I haven't bought a new camera in years. Let us know how you like it.

Really, really nice Leicas, Rocky. Love that M3. I still have a M6 that I haven't touched in 10 years - shame on me!

I have 3 Canon cameras that have the capability of tethering, via my Wi-Fi. "I", on the other hand, am sure about "my capabilities"?? I'm sure I'll figure it all out, sooner or later.

...Me neither! I have "lighting & vision" issues as my progressive lenses grow to more powerful and my focusing ability less. Old age sucks!

While this may not fit here....I needed to catch your, or anyone's attention...I need to know about "focus shift" and how it occurs. I sold that Leica camera body, as well as some lenses...and appears that one byer is claiming "focus shift"....from what I read, it's something that needs both pieces to come into play, the camera body, and the camera lens, however, I my be incorrect....can anyone help me understand this phenomenon??

The more "open" (aperture) your lens is, the more problems will occur with (lens) focus shift. In other words, a subject shot at F8 will have less turmoil than one shot at F2.8. Many lenses, even high-end ones exhibit this problem. On some cameras the issue can be resolved by focusing with a more open aperture and then re-adjusting to a more closed one, similar to "depth-of-field".
I am no photography expert but I try to eliminate problems like this by:
* Backing up
* Moving my image farther away from the camera
* Closing down a few F stops...
....&....
* Shooting at a higher ASA.

if I understand it correctly, this is an optical problem that occurs due to spherical aberration and that can only be eliminated when constructing the lens. But it only occurs with SLRs - not with a viewfinder camera like the Leica M3...

Depth of field is something different. It can be quite narrow if you are really close. Backing up helps but you'll lose a lot of your precious high-res

Almost all of the old viewfinders have focus shift issues, i.e. the "fixed" focal point intersects at 2 separate points, making only a portion of the subject totally in focus. This is nothing new and completely normal, given the specifics of a particular shot! I think Litch will agree. As for someone complaining about this?

PS: Focus shift also occurs on Canon DSLR's...(at least, according to the "You-Tube-Gurus"...CCS

Also, you can run a higher f-stop if you slow down the shutter speed (a side effect of running higher ASA film).

I believe the rule of thumb was to never go below 1/60 if you're holding it by hand. If you're mounting the camera on a tripod and using a remote trigger, you can run some awfully low shutter speeds.
