I don't have a T-square any more but I still have slide rulers (stick and wheel) and proper drafting pencils.

Ahh, apology to Miles.
We totally took your thread off the rails. Sorry about that friend.

Sorry Miles, I got lost in David Warther's great work.
Make this a testimonial
I am guessing from the video that it is probably made of basswood

I know that this is an old thread but...

A couple of students talked me into taking an AutoCad class with them this Summer.

AutoCad makes the T-Square, Triangle, Ruler, Protractor, Compass, & Eliptical drawer ALL Obsolete.

I once spent most of a week drawing up a land survey by hand with over 60 calls.

I could do it now with AutoCad in a couple of hours. (if that long)

Coach,

Funny you brought this topic up.
Yesterday was my 40th anniversary starting life in a real job after college. I had 4 years of drafting in HS and studied ME in college. When I started my "first " career at Grumman Aerospace 6/18/79, the horse was out of the barn.
Funny how technology and life changed along with my personal career choices. Back in 1979 CAD was just starting to happen.
Today, everything is 3D modeling and printing is just starting to make a really bold impact on manufacturing.
So, yes I still have my ink pens which are all dried out, my protractor, circle templates and God knows what else. All are dinosaurs and so am I but manufacturing will always ring my bell. My career now is helping customers make duds into studs.
The phone still rings "Help" ChaChing. I'll keep doing it as long as it's still fun.

Warren, we must be the same age. I graduated from college in May 1979 with a major in Physics.

I framed houses for a year before the economy and housing market went bust.

One of my old coaches called me and hired me to coach Football & Track and teach upper level Math, Chemistry, and Physics.

Since I had had some drafting, I did all my own diagrams with the aforementioned tools for years until I had a pretty good “library” built up.

Having those skills, opened a lot of doors for me. And,,, I’ve spent the last 39 years trying to turn “duds to studs” on the field and in the classroom.

The 2 kids that talked me into taking this class are going to Texas A&M in the Fall to be MEs. I wish I would taken this course years ago.

Coach,

For sure this thread is hijacked just for the record.
AND for the record of "Duds to Studs" , that's on your love for the kids. We see it in your posts. Keep making changes in kids lives.

To the mods if you want to move, do it.

Wish they had a hobby license for AutoCad like they do for Fusion360.

I am licensed for Fusion360 to do anything, including for-work, so long as my product sales stay short of $100k.

No such critter for AutoCad. This sucks, because I wanna do some property and house mapping.

Google "free cad software "
I didn't research it beyond that, but there appears to be some available.
Best Open Source and Free CAD Software

FreeCAD.Fusion 360.Onshape.nanoCAD.OpenSCAD.Tinkercad.3D Slash.LibreCAD.
