I cannot help but think it was used on sandy gritty cable and netting.

But, could also have spent life stripping bark from bottom of firewood stack. Or chopped up filing cabinets.

No matter what, it took tremendous abuse and still lives.

I have always thought these rehandled Ka-Bars had a special meaning to their original owners. The pacific arena was tough on the leather sheaths and handles. Whether a lunch box special or WWII survivor it is obviously a knife somebody used and more than likely cherished.

Lofty, I have owned quite a few unique WWII knives. I will post some of these for your viewing when I get home tomorrow. What issued knife from the US Military would you like to see the most?

Oh, pretty simple, that one.

ALL of them.

Barring that, some Mk2s, Mk3s, and a few neat folders would he overload enough, or just one of them, or a suprise.

Truthfully, what comes to mind is the aircrew Collins #18 machete aka raider bowie aka V-44. I very much like its successors, whether the W49 made of fine Sharon 1095CV/0170-6/50100B, or the latest incarnation and closer to original in weight, the AGR Sandbox Bowie of 0170-6C/DM-1. A large light hacker with a point is also a tremendously valuable tool and weapon with more reach. The two mentioned latter ones even more so due to their steels having value added cro-moly-vanadium-silicon blades adding even more toughness to what already was a very tough 1075-1085 class steel blade in the originals.

As to old Rover, here, also much sign of spine whacking, at least by feel, and to me another sign of it being perhaps a sailor rope knife, and how heavy rope cut via "baton" mallet, but also could have been simply someone hammering with spine quite a bit.

As for cherishing, this one already is a favorite, because it plain works so well, and will get a lot more hugs as long as I hold out. Then, the next guy. We just rent them, and either take care of the place while living there, or trash it through vandalism or kitsch redecorating, or leave it an immaculate sealed mausoleum, but renters are we all, and that is all we are.

Lofty, Here are 2 PAL Mark 2's that also were probably made post-WWII. Weske did not make these. One is a PAL/USMC with the USMC removed and the other an RH-37/USN with the USN MK2 removed. Both have WWII PAL marked leather sheaths.

Lofty, These are the Case 7" Doube edged Stilettos. The long scabbard was also issued with the Case V-42 Stiletto. The last pic is of a Bright Blade and blued blade versions. They also made a parkerized blade version.

This is the only Case Mark 2 made during WWII. It had an 8" blade. It was sold at the Case Factory auction in 1982. The metal was too hot during the hot blueing so there is a reddish tint.

Lofty, I will post more pictures for you tomorrow if you still want more, my kids want me off the computer. I will leave you with this W-31 to noodle on. I believe it is a lunchbox Western W-31. No lanyard hole, leather instead of a wood handle. Totally sterile Parachutists knife.

Last 3 pics are of an M3 Kinfolk guard marked.
