Hello fellow Randall Collectors,

I am looking for the The "Mission Memorial" Randall Knife:
By Captain Chris Stanaback

I love the Nasa jade G-3 color like the finished one in the link:
http://www.captainchrisstanabackrandallknives.com/index.php?/main/show/328/0

If you got one in this color and want to sell, please let me know.
Of course I already contacted the Captain and asked him about the knife.

Thanks in advance,

Micha

Yes, that is the one!!!!

BEAUTIFUL knife, and the stupid thing is, that I just saw that there was one for sale in March. A Randall collector/seller had one in stock costing $1400: https://severanceknives.com/2018/03/29/e...e-1/#comment-42

Two years ago I saw this knife for the first time on the Captains site and instantly loved it.

Thanks for your help!

Micha

Capt did them in Nasa Jade,Nasa Brown and Nasa White.
Some had nickle silver butt cap and others duraluminum. At first
the Jade was going to have a black sheath but got changed to brown
riveted. Also have the Nasa Brown but the white didn't trip my trigger.Again good luck to you.

Thanks Billy!

If I could only find the exact handle material...
That way I could at least have one build, only without the etching of-course. I hope that NASA wasn't the only one who was using that specific G-3.

There were only 86 of each made. Each one was marked 1of 86.
They did not go 2-3-4-5 etc all the way to 86.If you happen to find one it will be marked 1 0f 86.Don't let anyone try to slip a fake by you.

Billy,
They're a lot more scarce than that. Only 86, in total, including all 3 colors.
Best, Capt. Chris

Well, we all know Capt. is the king of handle material in his "stash", particularly this jade G3 stuff.
However, I've seen Gary Clinton list a couple of Model 10s with material that looks just like the jade that was used on the MM. He may only have (or had) material for slabs, but worth a phone call or e-mail to ask.
If you think that jade looks good in pictures, wait till you see it outside in the sunlight smile

OK, Capt. Chris--

Now, people in decades to come will be guessing and arguing "How many were made with such-and-such handle material."

You might have already published the numbers, but I don't recall seeing them.

Larry:
Never published because I never kept track..."exactly". I do know that brown was the most common at (approx.) 45 made. Jade green (almost a blue) was 2nd at about 20-25. The G-3 (off-white) is the most rare at less than 20, probably 17 or 18 total. Here's a quick pic of some of the incredibly scientific disecting of this unique CW....!!!
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

This was the plastic tote that I carried to the old RKS meeting, I think in 2007 or 2008?? It was the "1st cut", if you will. Although it appears to contain a lot of white, there were more brown insulator races than the other 2 colors. This was simply to show RKS members what was available at the time.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Micha

Fortunately, I was able to deliver it to a gentleman who actually worked on the NASA project. He also secured a brown G-10 Through one of my members in the Florida Randall Knife Collector Club, which you too are a member.

Good luck on your search Sir!

Thanks Tattoo Bill!

The Blue insulation G-3 is the nicest synthetic knife material that I have ever seen. It is too bad, that they don't make it anymore. I see all kind of colors with different patterns, but none of them as nice as this one. Great idea to make knife handles from this stuff Captain. To those who own one, I would absolutely cherish it.

I recall when Capt. Chris announced this Mission Memorial knife at Blade, and I spoke up and said I would buy "Number 1."

I recall that Rhett would number knives sequentially, then draw randomly to give everybody an equal chance at lower numbers.

Then there are folks who have favorite numbers for such things, and ask for their own number--potentially complicating the sellers' bookkeeping and attempts at fairness to all.

The Captain's approach makes sense--everybody got "Number 1!"

Larry,
Capt also had precut handle material with him.
I and Ken got to pick the pieces we wanted on our knives.
Capt wrote our names on them as I feel sure other folks did as well.

I hope somebody will find the Jade/blue NASA memorial knife at the Blade Show. I would gladly pay a few hundred more, then the person who finds it and holds it for me.

I just love the color and hardware.
Of course the history behind it is also very important. But to be honest, I would be just as happy, if i could make up a knife with the exact same materials as this one.
