David is one of the up-and-coming knifemakers out in Washington state. I really like his work -- for one, he's not all about banging out Damascus blades like some of the kids trying to enter the market.

Blade is 6 1/8" tip-to-hilt, handle is Mango wood.

Already started discussion with Amy Warlander to have a sheath built for it. cool

NICE!

I really like the shape of the handle.

Thanks. smile

The handle is not stabilized, so I'm looking up the best way to seal it. My "go to" for that is old school tung oil, so that's the likely path.

Rob

Great looking knife.

I am a fan of wooden handles. But never have heard/seen of mango wood. Very interesting and unique.

When I read "not stabilized", the first thing I thought was TUNG OIL.

Be nice to see what Mango wood looks like after 15-20 light coats of Tung Oil done 2-3 days apart.

I let Amy run with what she thought would look best.

I couldn't have chosen better myself.

That last pic is with three coats of tung oil mixed 50:50 with mineral spirits, at least a week between coating runs. The wood isn't really taking it in, so must be a particularly hard piece. (better for me!)

I'll keep working on it, of course.

Keep us posted. I’d sure to see what the tung oil does to it.

Rob,

Could take time but maybe soaking the handle is the ticket.

If you will bring it down here to Texas and set it out in this 100 degree heat, it will take it.

I paint my BBQ smoker with used fish grease every Summer in order to keep it from rusting and it will dry in a couple of days in this heat.
