Here is a chance to help me configure my next RMK.

I have a few RMKS right now. A Big Bear Bowie that is a safe queen, a Model 23 for EDC, a Triathlete for carrying out and about, and a Model 18 5 1/2" in my GTH bag. I think I want to add another bowie knife for the collection. I am considering either a Confederate or a Smithsonian. I saw a Thorpe and it was too long for me.

Here are the options I am considering:

-Ironwood handle (I am not a stag fan and the BBB has a leather handle)
-Commando shaped handle (the BBB has a #22 HANDLE WITH CROW'S BEAK BUTT CAP)
-Smooth Brass Collar
-FLANGED BRASS BUTT CAP
-BRASS LUGGED HILT or BRASS DOUBLE HILT

Other ideas? Thanks!

Lee,

Good place to start is to look over the Knife of the Week Model 12. The Smitty being forged from 3/8" stock is a big heavy knife. The Confederate would make a lighter carry if you plan to do so. The Smitty however makes a great presentation piece IMO.

No doubt George, you are spot on. I don't know how far out Doug Kennefick is on orders.
One thing to keep in mind is Randall dealers only get a few slots/month on large bowies like Smith or Confederate so it could add time to your order.

The 14 hilt is also available on this I believe.
Just a FYI if your looking for less curves or a other than brass option.

Consider the model 12 sportsman with its 9 inch blade, if you plan on carrying it. My #2 son has one with a #1 fighter guard, and he has packed it all over the Canadian North for years.

I hear what you are saying on a Thorpe being "too long" - but with that, what are you looking for in your next Randall?

Got a few Thorpe's, a Smithsonian and a confederate - I'll try to get some pics to share as have a couple of different configurations. As a user - I'd agree Thorpe's are "too long" - but at the same time I'd say the Smitty is "too heavy" - to get into user territory to me - I'd say 12-9 or small sasquatch if your looking for a useable length.

You've got a nice variety to start with and a nice bowie is always a wonderful conversation piece.
