Last winter my wife was looking out our front window at about 2:00 a.m. and saw a small cat-like animal that she had never seen before. Larger than a domestic cat, somewhat short stubby looking tail, and then it was gone.

The only thing I could find online that she agreed might look like what she saw is the Jaguarundi, but the Florida wildlife folks told me there is no photographic evidence to confirm that these cats are in Florida.

Searching online, I find various hits where people say they have seen or think they have seen the Jaguarundi in the state, but it remains a mystery waiting to be solved. Maybe someday the wildlife officials will come across one or somebody will manage to get convincing evidence.

Here is one link to a supposed sighting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xai4jZb_p68

Larry,
I am sure that what you had seen was correct. It seems that fish and game folks tend to be very conservative when it comes to confirming any type sighting.

If you saw one,I am sure that there are more around.

Jim--

She recognizes bobcats.

Need to correct the part about the tail. She said it was long and looked to be the same size all the way to the tip and blunt at the end. Sorry to have misquoted her!

The description of the tail ruled out the Jaguarundi, but your correction brought it back in to consideration. What color did she see?

David--

The critter walked past quickly and was backlighted by a distant street light and our yard light. She couldn't make out the color.
