Thought I would post this so more may identify a great looking fake from the real Mccoy. The bottom one is the impostor. The top example was authenticated by Gary Randall in 1999. I bought the fake one a while ago because I thought it was real.....hopefully, no one else who views this post will make the same mistake.

Looks like all they done was shortened the blade. Are the handles the same length?

The handles are the same size in length and circumference, as are the screw caps.

It would have fooled me.

Looks pretty good for a fake Eric. To the unknowing you might not suspect a fake. Side by side I see different features. Sawteeth look a little goofy but the rest is close at least to my eye. Did it have a sheath?

The fake was in a Mini Model C RMK marked JRB Sheath

No S stamp for stainless If they all had stainless blades

I do not know if all were stainless or not, all I know is the lower one is definitely fake.

The fake started as a genuine, although full sized 18. The blades are both real RMK blades, one reground for the purpose of deception, it's easy to see how it would fool most people, me included. A great lesson for us, sorry it came at your expense.

Safe to say that probably would have fooled a lot of us, especially those (like me) that don't have much exposure to mini's.
If there's an upside, you have a pretty cool conversation piece - folks would probably be ogling the fake more than the real one.
Don't know if that really helps or not but thanks for sharing it..

Wally and Dwight, No worries, I have made some great deals too. I sold the sheath to TTB and recouped some of the loss. The sheath is real and probably leftover from Johnson's stock which was sold off in the 1990's. I just wanted to let anyone know there are really good fake RMK's out there. I wish they all looked like the sloppy Model 1's that seem to be coming out of Germany today. Those are easy to see as fake.....even though they keep selling for north of $300 on eBay.

This one looks a lot like your mini, however it is 5.5" knife blade. the teeth, the stamp and hilt look strange to me. I don't know much about the Model 18, I only had two. the item number is 192243416460

Tom Welch, "TTB", posted on July 8th... Reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated.

+1 on the dedication Tom gave to sending care packages to our soldiers.

TTB... Tomthbomb... lover of Micarta and "newer" knives, if my memory still serves me. I noticed he posted something the other day. Safe to say, he's still here, lurking in the shadows. He's a true patriot, no doubt!
