Hi guys
I just got back from a trip to Arizona, Sedona and Navajo National Monument.
A friend of mine is the archeologist in NNM so I paid him a visit and we did some hiking to some of the best old dwellings in the southwest and I also helped with some archeological work looking for artifacts before a new livestock fence was to be installed.
One day we went to the Betatakin ruins, and the next day we went into Keet Seel canyon for the survey. Great weather and hiking but pretty serious. In Keet Seel we saw some wild horses and we did find a lot of pottery sherds where the fence is supposed to go, much to our surprise. So we took GPS readings on photographs.
I hope to go back to do some more volunteering later in the year

Peter

Very cool. Did you go into any of the rooms?

Thanks Tom and Pap
Amazing place.
Pap, I did not go in any of the rooms. The walls are somewhat fragile, and I would be concerned about hantavirus and would want some protective gear too. If I get to help with some surveys in the rooms later, I will let you know

I did a Sedona trip Aug 2015 Peter. That is a beautiful place. Glad you had a great trip; thanks for sharing your adventures.

Thank you Peter for the photos. I have explored a few similar sights in New Mexico. Very interesting to say the least.

Hantavirus, antidote, don't eat the mouse poop. Sorry I know it is serious. Can you get hantavirus from just being a closed room with mouse feces?

15 yards on Rod Brown!!!!

Have had multiple trips there. College Buddy's trips! Fly in to Phoenix, golf,... golf & hiking in Sedona, Up to Flagstaff for some skiing... Repeat on way back to Phoenix! One year we white watered the Canyon. One of the greatest places I've ever been!

Thanks Warren, Rod and Steve

Rod, I think both the mouse droppings and urine can carry the virus, and if you stir up the dirt, it may become airborne.
Who knows what might happen, not ready to die yet, too much to do
When I get back I will look into it more, they may have a policy before you go into the rooms

I have a little more time before my next big adventure, so I am posting a few photos from several different hikes around Sedona.
I was last in Sedona about 19 years ago, and it has gotten a lot more built up and more touristy than I remember and the common trails were more populated. I did a couple of more difficult trails and there were far less people which I prefer.
Weather was mixed with no rain during the day. but plenty of clouds most of the time

Peter
