Fellas, there's never been a better time to get a thread rolling on Mudbone and his incredible work. You've seen some of the other work that just came through, but this one I want you to see is off the hook. The collector doesn't have a KTF account and requested anonymity, but I did get his okay to share this.

5 1/2" Woodcraft forged from 1/4" thick 01. You're looking at fossilized mammoth which turned out unbelievably cool, and James' thin blue accent in the spacers makes the whole thing pop. Our initial idea for Mud was to have a mammoth hunt somehow depicted. On first arrival I was stunned by his detail of the mammoth, though slightly disappoint to not see the hunt aspect.... until I turned it over and realized he used the entire B side for a cave painting style hunt scene. Absolutely AMAZING.

Show me some of your favorite Mud!

Well Grant... this is MY favorite Mudbone...
Just received Mudbone's FIRST ever ram attempt and he nailed it!!! Also came with a GREAT hand written letter from the man himself, it's like a personalized COA! I am very VERY happy with it. Thank you Mudbone.

Yes, a definite work of art and I love his rivets that look like arrow heads.

Thought I should add my first, and hopefully not my last from Mr. Mudbone. After a successful Elk hunt in Colorado, I came accross this on the good captains table in Tulsa. Exactly like the 5x5 I harvested. I had to have it!!
Oh, the knife is awesome also. These Behring made knives have caught my attention!

Here's one that I got about 4 years ago. It came with a stag 4" Alaskan from James. The pair now reside with a good friend who did some fine engraving work for me.

And of course there's "The Bear" recently done on the Behring Mud collaboration project. This sheath and knife combo is off the charts.

Very nice! Both outstanding.. looks like the older sheath didn't have the arrowhead rivets, but a diamond pattern. Cool either way.

Hey guys,

I talked with Mr. Rogers "Mudbone" today for awhile and he is close to completing a special tribute knife in the coming days. I'll post a picture when it arrives -- it's been years in the making. He's one of the best and most authentic artist crafting knives and sheaths in the market today. Great pictures on this thread!

Have a good week,

Jay

This one needs to go here. Spoke with Mud today at length about this sheath. This is premium British tanned leather that is free of blemishes from Mud's private stock. When I asked to do a rendering of this knife, Mud just said "I got this". Bad ass Eagle on back side too, and wife Theresa's lanyard with her own beaded American Flag. Talk about "Keeping up with the Joneses"

Had Mud make me a pocket sheath for this Behring Made pinecone rehandled Triathlete. I asked him to carve out something that would wrap around the back side. Tellin' ya he nailed it. This is one one wicked cool deer; notice the drop tine? Also acorn, feathers deer tracks, his handmade arrowhead rivets, and of course Teresa's latigo braiding.

Thanks Pat. Wanted an off the hip pocket/pack for a small drop point skinner. Bam!
I'll take credit for the sheath idea, but Wally needs the credit for the pinecone tri. We both flipped on a different idea.

LOL We have somewhat similar interests in knives, but we almost always agree on leather. So if you like them at Warlander I'm in!

A big 100 year old Happy Birthday to Roger Mudbone "Doc" Jones grin
He had me on the horn today for a special treat; we're talkin' a 5 minute guitar rendition.
He asked me to please post his favorite song and artist Towne Van Zandt "To Live Is To Fly". He wants this on his final resting place.
Rare form was an understatement today. Happy Birthday Doc!

Thanks Tom. Yes, Rob, buffalo. 8-inch blade. Grant called it a "beast" and it sure looks it. Mudbone picked the snake theme and I think he nailed it.

Awesome Jim. Couple of questions though. Spacer looks to be ivory or dall sheep? Any artwork from Mud back side of sheath?

Thanks Warren. Musk ox spacer. No artwork on the back -- guess the front part wore him out. ;-) I have to say I was half-expecting to see a couple of stick men on the back battling a serpent but no joy on that one.

You guys are in for a treat. Mudbone calls this MOAS (Mother Of All Sheathes). Before we get to the sheath a little side story about the knife
This Behring Made S.W. Crown Stag Bowie found me. The previous owner inlaid a sterling silver Hopi Indian art pendant featuring the wolf, Kokopeli Man (flute player), and a feather. That's where Mudbone comes in. Mud just said, "I got this". Once again he just nailed this one. Front side, wolf howling at the moon, back side picks up all the Hopi Indian art off the inlay, beaded fringe and lets not forget Miss Theresa's fine woven indian blanket slide.
I can tell ya the man is jacked over this one and he's very proud of this piece. Hope you enjoy!

That entire package is just entirely over the top. Hard to know what to say other than - any chance you're interested in adopting an old fat bald guy? No? Didn't think so but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. grin

Seriously though Warren, even though James and the gang and Mudbone do the actual work you are the one coming up with these ideas and projects. Hats off to you sir, you're really coming up with some great projects.

Thank you Jim but I can't take credit for this knife. I found it pre-owned. The previous owner did the silver inlay work. I just asked Mudbone to follow the theme. Lots of folks had a hand in this project.

As suggested on another thread, adding this to the chronicle of Mudbone Madness.

Not that it has not been proven time and time again. .. but the people in this circle are absolutely TOP SHELF. MUD is NO exception to that. If you have not met him try to. It's time very well spent. He is really 1 of a kind. Along with BMK,Amy,Warren, Tom and the Captain it's an unbelievable family to be part of. Becky and I are very blessed in this.

I got lucky and was able to meet and spend a little time talking with him this weekend. Really enjoyed the experience. Also really enjoyed the time spent with forum folks this weekend even though it was not nearly as much time as I would have liked.

This is myself and Mudbone at Blade. With the Mudbone original I picked up from him! Mud is holding the hammer he uses to bang in the copper arrowhead rivets used on his pouch's... VERY cool. I am happy I was able to meet him and spend time talking with him, he is 1 of a kind!

Suitable for framing bro. What you didn't mention is Mudbone made the hammer too. Oh no, just any hammer won't do. Got to be Muddy. crazy

Here's a mini Trapper Spring Knife made from Grandfather's stock. These went quickly.

One of a few Mudbone knives at Blade this year. Mud rarely does Damascus blades anymore. This skinner has a N/S guard, leather, G10, metal spacers, and a fossil walrus handle. Sheath is classic Mudbone all the way. Miss Theresa added her touch of a latigo braided edge and slide.
Super cool and scary sharp!

Here's the completed sheath to my Randall 1-7 re-handle.
I asked Mud to make me a pivoting sheath from a mock-up I sent him. Perfect and functional I can now sit in a car or a truck with a knife on my side. Worked out as I had hoped. Grant"s idea for the elephant inlay, it just compliments the Cooper gunstock handle.

Had to let the Warren wave die down a bit before posting crazy

I was fortunate enough to pick up my second full Mudbone package at Blade this year. A great little knife, perfect edc size... Nickel hilt, over red, leather, copper and aluminum spacers. Finished off with a great piece of stag. I especially like how it is shaped almost into a single finger grip!

The pouch is Muds first attempt at a Celtic styled dragon. Complimented with the missssus excellent latigo work it makes a great pouch.

I genuinely feel very fortunate to have received this knife and pouch, especially after getting to meet Mudbone this year and talk with him after many hours of phone calls.

Thank you to Grant for making sure this happened for me! Now I just gotta get 1 for Becky.

Such a beautiful set up James! Proud to have played any part at all in the process. Mudbone is full of gratitude from this last show from all of the new and re-connections. It means the world to him, and much the same to the BMK crew too.

In related news, we sold Mudbone's knives so damn fast this year that he's working what seems to be twice as fast as before. He's finally figured out that he just has to "send them to Grant and they will sell". With that being said we're going to become legitimate dealers for old Mr. Mud and he was telling me this morning that there is a whole other slew of his trap spring knives that are under way. One is a full ulu style that he's raving about, and the other sounds like it's going to be a full size 4 or 5" Hunter among some other who-knows-and-what-nots.

Keep your eyes peeled here, and on our website as things develop!

Maybe we'll get an update to the Mudbone knife and sheath with the smoking wheelie.
He told me it sold but was unfinished as of Blade. Customer had choice of butt end finish.

Warren that one is the "Huckleberry" and it's headed as of this morning to Julie and crew over at Arizona Custom Knives. They went with the peened copper arrowhead with Mud's stamp. Awesome, and up for grabs! I'd keep your eyes peeled here for that one:
http://www.arizonacustomknives.com/product-filter.aspx?MakersFilter=3708

TUNER- I'm seeing a Mammoth mini listed there that must be from last year and it's right up your alley.

Last night, Mudbone gave me a call after a few rounds of Jose Cuervo and he'd managed to get Teresa to email over some preview shots of what he's working on. Yesterday, a S&W Airweight j-frame in .38+p made it's way into my own collection and it led Mudbone to talking about a j-frame in his, but I'll let him explain.

from his email
"This is Gary Wheeler's Uncle Joe's personal j-frame revolver. Uncle Joe was captain of the fishing vessel Seabear. Uncle Joe was a commercial fisherman, brown bear guide and wilderness trapper in Alaska. Obviously Uncle Joe was one hell of a man. These knives are integrally made of file steel. These knives are my dedication to Uncle Joe. Hope those that end up with them will be very proud. The revolver is mine, the knives will be for whoever wants them, story told - enough said.
Mud"

For those of you that don't know, Gary Wheeler is a very close friend of Mudbone's and another seriously badass knifemaker. [To my knowledge] he shares shop space with fellow 5th group member Kim Breed, and together they're some of Mudbone's closest and revered friends... In our exchanges of stories of our hunts, and dreams of hunts with Mudbone he's mentioned Uncle Joe on more than a few occasions, and it's clear that the man inspired Mudbone to the core.

Alotta soul on the way!

I spoke with Mudbone at Blade about doing a knife and sheath for me and sent him an email a few days ago. Haven't heard from him yet but it looks like he's been pretty busy lately.

Hey Jim-

It might be on his business card, but email and Mudbone are like fire and ice 9 times outta 10.

I would give him a call at 740-835-8243, or I can call him for you and see what I can't stir up.

Thanks for the warning. I have to do a day trip to Destin tomorrow and that's a 2+ hour drive each way. Might be a good idea to call while I'm on the road and put the phone on speaker. Wouldn't mind listening to some tunes while I drive. ;-)

It's gotten to a point that there's almost no more accolades left. Another over the top combo.

Like the way he mixed it up a bit by putting the beaded slide on the lanyard this time. As always fantastic artwork. Latigo braided edge by Miss Theresa is the way to go. Great rig Chief, lots of bells and whistles.

Spoke with the man himself last night. He's still absorbing everything from Blade. Lots of good works along with a few projects that look promising and hopefully work out.

Nothing makes a Friday better than getting an unexpected box from Mudbone. Mud had some unfinished mini knives at Blade Show, so I picked one and told him to have his way with it. Here is the latest, copper hardware, walrus handle, the sheath has a cobra inlay. The second picture is a family shot.

Nothing "short" of OUTSTANDING! That's a great collection of mudbone masterpieces. Without the quarter for reference, you'd be hard-pressed to tell those are minis.

Have a safe weekend guys,

Earlier original post on this thread from Blade 2017. Long story short. I passed on this knife at Blade and had first pic on it; second score last week. It was unfinished at Blade waiting for the option for an arrowhead, ButtCap or other and was buyers choice. Might have bought it then cause that arrowhead is killer.
The sheath is the Doc Holliday story and Mud included his thoughts. Yeah no kidding smokin' hot.
So it got here today and interesting to see similarities with Behring/Mudbone #3. Even the Ivory matches. Go figure...

Yeah thanks, killer one of a kind piece. So called Mud and asked if he knew how close these handles are being made so far apart without reason? We just laughed. The Huckleberry will get matching Eagle feathers. Damn spooky how close they match.

Truly an awsome combo. The Behring is off the chart, and combined with that sheath is unreal. Just the stitching alone is enough to make it a monster. Kudos all around.

Masterpiece, that sheath doesn't need a knife!

Well done! Like we have said before; sometimes you need to let the artist loose with an idea and let them take it from there.

The sheath is the Doc Holliday story and Mud included his thoughts. Yeah no kidding smokin' hot.
So it got here today and interesting to see similarities with Behring/Mudbone #3. Even the Ivory matches. Go figure...

Follow up story on the matching feathers and a suprise from the old man himself. He's a 100 now you know LOL (In tequila years). First and one of a kind "Desk Set #1" as he called it.
The little knife on the stand is for those who don't know, one forged from a Trapper Spring. Mud spend much of his early years following his Grandfather and many are from those vintage trappers. He's not only an artist, he's damn smart when it comes to outdoors and trapping.

You betcha! James and I rented an AirBnB with room for him, Gary Wheeler and Kim Breed too. There will be guitars and there will be drums.

Needless to say, it's going to be one very interesting year- can't wait for all the good sleep I'm going to get smile

Figured I need to post this here; the thread is most appropriate. Mud and
Miss Teresa did an amazing job on this wraparound pocket sheath. The artwork is a cave bear skull. Check out the fine details like hand hammered arrowhead rivets and latigo braided edge; nobody pays attention to detail like Mudbone.

Another Mud masterpiece on the way. The art is northwest costal and Alaskan tribal inspired. The walrus artifact net weight got him going. Even has Mud hands with the holes. Its just him being him.
You may need to zoom in to see the fine details. Take a good look.

This one is a few years old according to Mud. Just a wicked relief carving of an eagle head in walrus ivory.

A few years back but a nice recent find. Mud didn't make many of these. Great vintage looking hatchet/ knife combo.

Today is Mudbone's Birthday but it feels like I'm the one getting the present. Grant passed along some pics of a rehandled project along with a companion knife in FWI. There's so much art going on it's hard to say where to begin. Mud definitely outdid himself once again.
Start off with a before pic.

Thanks Coach. You need to stretch zoom to see the fine details. I really like his relief carving. Nobody is doing this stuff on leather or ivory. His artistic talent is above reproach.

I DID stretch zoom it. You are correct.

There is a LOT going on.

I don’t see how those guys can do that stuff.

My wife and ALL of my kids can draw and play music. But try as I may, I cannot draw a stick figure or sing a correct note. All I can do is appreciate it.

It is a GIFT to be able to do that stuff.

This Behring Made Appalachian Assassin just back from a little bit of Mudbone magic. This piece of FWI had a rather unsightly line running lengthwise. Mud incorporated it into a relief carved feather. Amazing how he does this stuff.

Thanks Coach. In my haste and hindsight earlier, I should have taken a closer image.

Just in today more Mud magic. Had him upgrade this rig with some artifact inspired art.
Even Miss Teresa got a hand in this with her hand woven beaded slide.

Another example of how Mudbone outdoes himself. Here's a no loop pocket sheath with very appropriate artwork for this limited BMK "Grouse and Trout"

This is a surprisingly basic package... the best use of Mud's skillz I've seen in a long time. Well done!

Well thanks for that but we all know there's nothing basic when it comes to Mudbone. He's an adventure man on a mission.

Hey thanks Rod. These knives were made around 2014. Grant said about 50 of these special forgings were done for a customer.
