I've been wanting to do a group shot of all my Behring knives for some time as a thank you to the guys at BMK. Each and every knife has a story. Many have custom handle material that I sought out and worked with Grant and James to make into a work of art. Same with the leather. It was fun working with Rowe, Warlander and of course Mudbone to get it just right. Within the group you might spot a few Michigan knives as well as some Mosher sheathes.
So here's the guys out in Montana at BMK; thanks again for a helping me put together a great collection, well done!

Thinking of sending the cleaver to Mudbone. He'll come up with something cool.

Warren,

Even better than I thought! That is one impressive collection of Knifemaking at its Best! James and the Gang should be honored by Blade as one of the very best!

That clever needs a big hunk of a Walnut Burl Bolle or a Crotch as a presentation stand!

Keep challenging them Warren.

Spectacular collection Warren. Just gorgeous. Congratulations to you and all of the makers. Some of the finest custom work in the world today!

Chief is right...the cleaver looks cold without some leather to keep it warm.

Warren, when I had that cleaver, I kept thinking of having a "tilt out" like sheath made for it. The spine of the cleaver would face forward and the sheath would allow it to slide out the front.

Never worked out the mechanics.... but it was the idea.

Good luck!

The "Woodsman's Pal" tools sheath like that, with a zipper up the "spine" side.

This is not my image but I have a very similar "kit".

I have used my Woodsman Pal for 40 years, just to clean a trail, hack branches and hammer tent stakes. If you camp, a Woodsman Pal should be in your pack. A good USA built tool.

I don't have any manuals but there might be some on ebay from WWII. The Woodsman Pal was used by our Armed Forces mostly in the Pacific theater. I found out about them when I was in college at Louisiana Tech taking Forestry and hacking boundary lines and trails for survey and tree marking. Way better than a machete.

You might be able to order them direct, they still print them and ship with the tool.

Heck, for the price, just buy the whole package. They're handy to have around.

I use mine to split smoke wood (for smoking meats), when I'm not using it for that, it lives in the camping bag (a.k.a. "go bag").

What a fantastic collection! I switched from ordering Randalls to Behrings, mainly because the quality is identical, plus there is more choice in handles, guards, etc, and delivery beats Randall time frames hands down! I should also mention the innovative scabbards, not found elsewhere. You must have a knife display room....a knife cabinet would be totally inadequate. Great going, Warren!

Warren, NYS has no specific restrictions on fixed blade knife lengths, or open carry, outside of NYC (which prohibits open carry altogether, and prohibits possession of any knife with a blade length of 4" or longer).

Of course, you could certainly run into an enforcement officer who does not know the law, or who feels like hassling you. Unfortunately, the somewhat archaic NYS Penal Law is fairly 'gray' and non-specific when it comes to knives.

NYS PL 265.01 prohibits the possession of a "dangerous" knife, if it is intended to be used unlawfully against another person. What's a "dangerous" knife? Unfortunately, it is not defined in the law (though it is lumped in with switchblades, ballistic knives, metal knuckle knives, dirks, stilettos, etc. Possession of a "dangerous" knife, though, is deemed to be "presumptive proof of evidence of intent to use the same unlawfully against another." (NY PL 265.15) Sounds like a bit of a catch-22 to me, but that's NY for you.

While I've occasionally worn my RMK 19-5 while biking or hiking, without incident, I'd venture that unless you were hunting or camping, a bowie would probably be deemed to be a "dangerous" knife in NYS. And who needs to spend the time and money rebutting the dangerous classification and unlawful use presumption?

Well said Warren!

This is the great state we live in. I often wonder what the headline would read if they came into my house and saw the knives, guns & ammo. We all have way more than the Breaking News stories, of this one or that one with this many guns and that amount of ammo!

Thanks to all of you Great Americans in upstate NY who voted Trump; sent a big message to the Dem's & Lib's in the Socialist State of NY!

Warren and Tom, some random thoughts on your posts...

I can tell that you've both lived in NY for a while. I love Warren's 'I wouldn't open carry my car keys' line, and Tom, I can only imagine what the LI liberals would make of your knife, etc. collection. "I never dreamed...I thought he was such a nice man..."

The liberal zaniness (and endless corruption) here in NYS never ceases to amaze me (though I should have grown accustomed to it by now). All of it personified in our esteemed governor and his comment, "...extreme conservatives who are right to life, pro-assault weapon...have no place in the state of New York."

Ever read the U.S. Constitution Mr. Cuomo? Believe it or not, even NYS residents are permitted to hold opinions that differ from yours. I know it's shocking, but that's what the First Amendment is all about.

I've lived both on Long Island and upstate (outside of Buffalo). Warren is absolutely correct...it is a completely different culture upstate. Much more pleasant, friendly and reasonably-paced, in my experience.

Trump won something like 46/62 NY counties (losing those mostly associated with big cities), but still lost the state by nearly 2M votes. Most of the counties he won were upstate, excepting only Richmond and (I'm proud to say) my home county of Suffolk.

Bob,

Exactly why I moved from eastern Suffolk County to central NY. I did the opposite of you, lol.

Steve,

Many of these appear to be Jim Sr. blades. First pic, musk ox, second pic bird & trout with artifact net weight handle are sweet, but there's not a bad blade in the group.
