Tom, the inlay is tanned beaver tail, dyed black. Very nice. I am a big tanned beaver tail fan as it is all American and a very tough hide and makes a great sheath.

I saw this on Jim's website, and jumped on it. A very cool mini with fossil walrus. Super nice and I am lobbying for a matching mini hatchet. It is a real knife, but I hope I don't get too much grief from Warren and Chief, the big knife guys smile
