Re: Triathlete #8 - 08/02/17 09:45 PM

Hi Warren. I glad you liked the knife. Five years ago my wife and I visited Durango Colorado and ended up on the open air train from Durango to Silverton. A four hour trip put us at the top of the mountain in Silverton where there was a gift shop and for sale was the knife stand. It was the only stand, marked 50% off and when I asked, was told 30 dollars would buy it. The clerk said the wood was "mountain juniper". I brought it home, sanded, cleaned and lacquered it.

Lol Dave, thanks for sharing but you should have kept it a secret. Really amazing workmanship and great get.
Looks like you're stepping up your game. This is some of your best to date but I like all of course. Thank you for sharing some amazing work. Someday you're gonna make me one of yours I hope?
And to edit Dave tell us about the dog. Great looking pooch.

Re: Triathlete #8 - 08/02/17 10:47 PM

That is a good looking stand and considering the time it would take to make I thought it was a really good, can't say no, deal. I saw a lot of those types of trees in the Durango area and they stay fairly short with trunks contorted near the base so I see where the stand wood came from. The dog is our old, wonderful Rhodesian Ridgeback mix "Bud". We've had him since he was a puppy and in about 5 months he'll be fourteen. I was out early to take knife pictures hoping to get good light with the least glare and Bud just had to be part of it all. It was a nice morning and the right time to record an old friend's big mug.
