Model 5 - Hone Pocket Survival Kit (3rd Revision) - 02/16/17 11:44 AM

It's pretty slow around Indiana in the winter, so I decided to revise my hone pocket survival kit to make it a little more versatile. Again, the idea was to turn the sheath's hone pocket into a small, but effective, survival kit. The pocket now contains basic items for fire-starting, fishing/gigging, and navigation. Kit includes a firesteel, fatwood, arrowhead/striker, 7' of 100lb. micro cord, Royal Coachman fly, and compass (period correct, of course grin). All items are waterproof.

Tom

You have put a great package together. I think you have got the bases covered.

I must confess, I don't venture that far into the woods anymore. If I am outside of cellular coverage, I am in the boondocks!!!

Thanks James and Rod. It's fun to see how creative you can be with getting the most out of a small space.

We do the same here in the summer 'cause it's to hot to go outside!
All BS aside that is a way cool idea!

Thanks, but I was going for more than just "looking pretty cool". frown Hopefully, I'll never need it, but if lost and all I had was this knife, I'd rather have these few items than a sharpening stone.

The fly has a split ring to accept the thicker cord. The fish around here will bite on anything. Bluegill and crappie love this pattern. 100lb cord is multi-use for fishing, constructing a gig with the arrowhead, or general use.

Tom

There is no chance of that knife falling out. Great knife and sheath.

Is this knife the one you carry, if you are outdoors?

Thanks everyone. I wasn't looking for compliments. Just replacing photos. The Photobucket ordeal really devastated many of our threads here. frown

Rod, yes, this the #5 that I carry and use. I am not hard on my knives, so it has held up nicely. I can assure you that it has seen a lot of whittling and food prep over the years. But it hasn't killed any bears.....yet. grin
