Re: Bring On Da Bears - 08/13/16 09:53 PM

I would have to move the gun cabinet containing a couple dozen like-new Griffin & Howe rifles, two of which are "1 of 4", to access the rest of the collection that remains, so far, "untouchable". Then, there are the 300+ Winchester Model 42 shotguns to contend with. I'm still trying to get to the 400+ Daniel WInkler buckskinning Knives that are "kinda" in the way.

He came to Blade this year, and after introducing him to Gary Clinton & Wayne Buxton, he spent $15,000 between them.

I would like to get in there to photograph the Brass-back Randall Bowies in the collection. I told him he needs to publish a coffee table book on the collection.

I wish money was no object with me

I notice the back of the sheath is stamped 12 7 where the standard Bear is 12 8, so is the Bear smaller or the sheath mis-stamped? Curious minds want to know

Talked to Rick about it at Blade, last he heard the family kept it.

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 08/14/16 02:00 PM

It's #12-7". I had Greg make the custom sheath, out of some Ostrich hide of mine he had down at his shop. Originally, no sheath was provided. My late friend, Dave Griffin, had placed this knife in my "drawer" for me, prior to me becoming a dealer. Of course, becoming an authorized dealer nixes any cool, one-offs, Randalls being held in a drawer for me....(Rats!) I'm not complaining...just takin' a trip down memory lane!
Best, Capt. Chris

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 09/01/16 09:47 AM

Ron,

This from the 12 Knife of the week thread. A quote from Gaddis.

.The first order for this knife [Bear Bowie] was recorded in the journal on 6 February 1964, with nine more orders following during the next six months. This is quite impressive for one of the most expensive Randall models, especially when it wasn't even listed in the current catalog! These orders... appear to have been the direct result of one magazine article.... in the February 1964 issue of ArgosyMagazine....

So was this one of the first from eearliest vintage?
Posted by: BoBlade

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 09/01/16 09:57 AM

It may be Warren, but there is no way to know for sure. The sheath certainly looks like an early Johnson, but in 1964 it should have baby dots.

Boomer your 1st best destiny on ox is to get in contact with Duke.
He cures them then shapes them in a cylinder & then sends them to be to be stabilized.
This way you can get a uniform color without the white if you want.
I.E. like buying center cut ivory back in the day.
Just a little FYI fact.

Once, there were three bears.......................

The desert ironwood coming out of the Shop is very respectable, and has been.

The middle "Bear", SS, brass & black spacers, ironwood, brass butt cap, wrist thong,

is flanked by a pair of matching "Bears", SS, scalloped collar, ironwood, scalloped "Coolie" butt cap.

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 11/17/18 08:05 PM

I handed it to Billy and said....here let’s see you get it in the sheath. 2 seconds later it was in. Then I tried it and it wouldn’t fit. The para chord knots were getting in the way and with my sorry eye site I could not see that.

How nice...Ronnie bashes RMK "&" Sullivans, doesn't apologize "after" everything he was told was proven true and everything he stated was proven false, and we just move on. An open apology, in the forum build, would be appropriate..."THEN"...we could move on.
Just my thoughts, Capt. Chris
Posted by: Dirty_Water

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 11/18/18 11:23 PM

"Sorry Ronnie, but it fit when it left the shop...bend the back of the sheath away from the blade some and see if that helps..."

"there is no way this left this bad of a fit...just no way...must be other semantics some where"

"Scott there are pictures showing the knife in both ways. (I know the correct way to stick a Randall in it’s sheath.) I posted all the photos to show that It wouldn’t fit."

"The sheath sucks and anything they send me to replace it will suck."

I'm with Cap on this one, I called BS and was called out on it.
Posted by: Ronnie

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 11/19/18 03:23 AM

Scott I made a mistake......a big mistake. I COULD NOT SEE the parachord knots blocking the guard.....even when I bent the sheath. Am I embarrassed about my mistake.....of course. Does that make me like the current Sheaths supplied with Randall Made Knive any better.....no. The quality, to me just isn’t there. Remember I had another knife that didn’t fit in the sheath. I did send that one back and a replacement sheath was made for me. Why didn’t that one fit? I don’t know.....it had no parachord on it. That’s all beside the point. That isn’t gonna change and I guess I should just get over that because that apparently isn’t important to Gary.
I made a mistake. I am sorry for causing a stir. That’s it.

Posted by: Ronnie

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 11/19/18 04:11 PM

How the hell did you people get that I was saying it’s Gary’s fault.....how did you figure that out Scott! In the immortal words of the fella that sold Gump his boat.....”are you stupid or something”? In the final analysis it doesn’t matter what I think about the Sheaths supplied with Randall Knives. It doesn’t matter what Chris thinks, or even what Rhett thought. It only matters what Gary thinks and he likes them just fine. So bitching isn’t gonna change anything. That is what I was saying.
Posted by: Dirty_Water

Re: Bring On Da Bears - 11/19/18 04:33 PM

This pair of Bear Bowies arrived Saturday for my local customer, who focuses on Model 12-8's. I think these brings him up to 84 Bears.

These two are sporting nickel-silver "furniture", and David Warther's resin ivory, "S" grade. Impressive handle material.
