Tune, They are really sweet lock-backs. They Lock-up with that patented Al Mar crisp snap. They made 3 different sizes of these SERE lock-backs, yours being the largest. I noticed the one I have has a gray stone and a different marking on the flap of the camo belt sheath. Very Cool find!

Re: Al Mar SERE - 12/03/17 10:25 AM
I don't own a Sere yet but that day is coming soon. Lately, I have been picking up a few Eagles and Falcons. Really like the designs, etc. on those knives. Lately, I have been carrying the Kershaw with the Al Mar design. Nice little knife and inexpensive so I don't worry so much about losing it.

Tune, They are exceptional folders, They made fixed blade SERE examples too. They used the Camo Sheaths on some of their Fixed Blade Special Forces Knives as well.

"The Al Mar SERE knife was the first knife accepted for use by Special Forces Colonel Nick Rowe for the SERE Instructor School at Camp McCall, North Carolina.[6] The SERE was the first factory-made production knife to sell for more than US$100 in the United States."
Here's mine.

Tune, You are right it was the SERE 3002 missing from my pic. Turns out I still had it. Here are all 3 pictured next to a Texas Knuckleduster on an M7, 6 3/4" bladed Bayo.

Although these folders sold for $155 in the 1980's...They now sell for $500+ on eBay. Not a bad return for a Factory produced folder.

Re: Al Mar SERE - 01/23/18 01:50 PM
I remember when these came out. I believe that Soldier of Fortune magazine had an interview with Col. Nick Rowe on the merits of this knife. Couldn't believe that somebody would spend that kind of money on a folding knife, when you could get a buck 110 for about 30 to 35 dollars. Ah, the ignorance of youth . I would like to hear some more about the Texas made Knuckleduster on the M7 bayonet. For some unexplained reason it calls to me.

Re: Al Mar SERE - 01/26/18 05:17 PM
Tune, Here is another SERE Folder (bottom), still a 3001 model but with a spearpoint blade rather than the Chute shape. Yellow micarta adds a lot of eye appeal to these folders.

Re: Al Mar SERE - 05/24/20 06:20 AM
To revive an old thread, does anyone know about the numbering on the early SERE 3003's?
I have #410.
#502 is for sale on ebay right now. I've found references to #587 and found a photo online of #154 - but that's all!
The guy who is selling #502 says he thinks there were 600 early SERE's with serial numbers - but does anyone know?
Thanks
James
I have always wanted a Al Mar but waited to long as I don't want to pay 500+

Hate to be a name dropper...but I just got off the phone with Gary Fadden, retired/former Owner/CEO (now self-designated booth-babe for Blade/Shot shows) of AMK's...and he says " Yes, there was most likely 600 ct done of this model, but the #'s may not be exact as the records are no longer intact"
