Just in from Treeman

Just in from Treeman - 07/19/16 05:12 PM

This just arrived today from Jim Behring "Treeman". It was a custom order. I like Alaskans and drop points and I wanted dog or wolf tracks on the sheath. Jim dig a fantastic job on the knife and Brian on the sheath, I couldn't be happier, the stag is awful nice too

Re: Just in from Treeman - 07/22/16 08:19 PM

Peter,

I need to touch base with Jim next week. I've asked him to pair a companion knife to a camp axe already in my collection. Special sheath in works I hope. It will be cool if it delivers as planned.

Warren
I am sure he can do it and Brian is doing some great sheath work. Looking forward to seeing the pair

Have a good weekend,

Jim and Brian both went over and above for you here.

Thanks again guys
Here is another one I snagged off of Jim's website, he called it a woodmonk, kind of a cross between a woodcraft and a nessmonk. It reminded me of a Randall Rick Bowles special a little and I like the crown stag. Good stuff coming from Michigan

You can't live on ironwood alone, and Jim doesn't do much with wood anyhow.
I have more than a few with stag and micarta smile

Perfection Peter! Your knife has a lot of character with the crown stag. I have an order in with Jim and can't wait to see what he turns out... His knives are in a league of their own! Thank you for sharing and enjoy!

Re: Just in from Treeman - 09/01/16 10:03 PM

Peter,

Congratulations on two gorgeous knives! The Alaskan drop point looks like a great user and I really like the blade profile and crown stag on the Woodmonk. I don't have any knives from James Sr./Treeman, but after seeing yours, that may change.

Re: Just in from Treeman - 05/22/17 05:45 PM

Another great knife from Jim Behring with sheath by Brian
I won't be at Blade this year and I saw this on his website so I jumped on it. Jim's description follows:

"This Treeman J. Behring Handmade Trout & Bird has a hand forged blade just over 4” and beat down to a nice fast cutting thickness of .110 . Made of O1 tool steel. Sharp little bad ass knife for sure ! The stamp is deep and clear . The silver soldered guard is nickel silver. The hidden tang handle is ancient walrus artifact Ivory and has plenty of nice color and is stabilized so it will not crack and last another 10K years. I used a few black spacers with copper and thin brass to accent the Ivory. Handle is ground into the gamblers style with enough length to fit 4 fingers in the swell. OAL is about 8 ½”. The TMK leather shop sheath has some ostrich skin inlay and a heavy stitch with black rivets and snaps"

Very happy with it

Really, really, really sweet blade, sheath, whole package Peter. You nailed it just before I woulda' pulled the trigger....durn it! Stick it in a rib-eye, stick it in a trout, stick it in your day pack on all of your outings.
Heck of a hand made knife & sheath.

A beautiful little knife, there, Peter. Great daily use size and design, sculpted and flows in a wonderful manner.

I looked at it, too.

thanks for the nice comments about the mini hunter. I called Jim last week and said a mini hatchet would go great with the mini hunter. Next thing I know I get an email, subject "you asked for it" In the mail today is a complementary mini hatchet. So very cool and sharp too. Big thanks to Jim Behring

Here two just in this week.
First is from the Lakeland show; a vintage 10 1/2" Camp Knife, hammermarked blade, old Treeman stamp since retired, nickel hardware, segmented FWI handle with fiber and metal spacers. Huge Mosher old school horsehide sheath.

Second is another vintage Treeman. This one a 7" fighter, Studebaker steel, hammermarked blade, nickel silver hilt, old retired Treeman stamp, FWI handle.
Very unique Mosher pouch sheath with contrasting latigo braided edge.

That camp knife is a beast. You're right, I can't recall that handle configuration before. Grant commented that the sheath looked like a boat paddle. It's huge!

Re: Just in from Treeman - 03/21/18 08:36 PM

Camping? Oh haven't thought about anything outdoors yet, it's still winter here.
Well even though its set up as a fighter, that Treeman upswept blade would be good for any camp and field skinning chores.
A better choice for me would be one of my BMK axe/knife camp combos. Probably the fossil set. It has a larger knife to handle just about anything.

Re: Just in from Treeman - 06/04/18 08:16 PM

I didn't make it to Blade this year, but Jim and Brian finished a project for me right before the show.
I had a piece of FWI for a while and was thinking of what to do with it. I sent a photo to Jim and he had me send it in. I had some ideas, but ended up letting Jim run with it, and he outdid himself. 9.25 brass back hammer mark fighter blade. I did have ideas for the sheath and sent Brian some rock art photos and he outdid him self too.
It is big enough that even Chief would like it smile

Placing this post in the right place, hopefully.

Ok... Man, there are some *crazy nice* knives in *THIS* thread. Fantastic works of art.

Here’s a little trout and bird knife I picked up years ago. My son has another one just like it - almost its twin. He never goes hunting or fishing without it. He usually has a rugged looking big orange handle folder in his kit, with gut hook and saw blade, but he always has the Treeman on his belt. The little 3 ¾” blade does almost everything he needs when field dressing. He keeps it in his car the rest of the year. Razor sharp and takes an edge with ease – a simple honing now and then on a kitchen steel will keep it going for months. These knives hold their edge well.

And the little Mosher sheaths are fantastic for everyday carry or throwing in a tackle box or car seat cubby. Especially thick and tough, protect the knives well, but aren’t too heavy. These little knives, in their sheaths, give a natural impression of a “basic tool.”

With its similar top bevel and overall profile, it compares favorably with a Randall #7-4 ½, coming in about 1 1/8” shorter in OAL. But of course, it’s convex ground.

Great little knife Gary
If nothing else, you have a classy steak knife you could take anywhere. Spacer stack is sharp looking.

They say that “great minds” think alike. When I first saw this knife, my first thought was that it would be perfect for cuttn’ up a steak!

LOL, you got it right!
Who needs bird and trout when steak is on the table, right?

Jeep themed camp knife - 06/29/20 04:27 PM

I had an idea for a Jeep themed camp knife when I take the Jeep to remote areas to camp. I wanted more of a slicer for food preparation than a chopper, as a lot of the places we camp you can't have camp fires so you are prepping your food and cooking on a propane stove.
Jim made the knife to complement my Jeep with an orange G10 Ward Gay style handle and Studebaker spring steel with nickel silver hilt and wrist thong.
Brian "Rocco" made the sheath with the JK grill and tire tread theme.
They both did a super job and I couldn't be happier

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I get these ideas sometimes and it is great to work with craftsmen who can put it into reality.
I used it for some food preparation already at home

Great idea and even better execution!! I might need to borrow your idea for one (or both) of my Jeeps, neither one dressed up quite as nice as yours though....yet!
