Vietnam Theater Machete - 03/09/20 04:35 PM

This Vietnam Theater Machete belongs to a friend who says he got it from a vet who is succumbing to Agent Orange. He says he used it in the jungle. The keeper is torn no snap
I have no providence but it caught my attention. So $100 plus actual shipping CONUS
Could be a good camping tool
I thought it was cool, no guaranty and no complaints
could be BS

Sharpi--

Having never seen one of these, I asked a friend if he had.

He ran one of the land clearing Rome Plow companies, and I thought that might be a logical place to field such a tool.

He replied:

No... but it does look like something that one could have put together .... .then ... or now.

My own souvenir from a VC is an Australian machete. How the VC got it, I do not know. I did get it from him face-to-face. I would not part with it when shipping home... it was in my hand luggage... I did let them confiscate my switchblades... the inspectors thought wisely about fighting me....

Not to cast doubt on the one you have that he thought somebody in the supply chain might have come up with it. But if it were a standard issue item does it have any inventory numbers or manufacturer's markings?

The eBay listing says it was a SOG machete. If made for them, that could explain the lack of markings. The SOG survivors are thinning out, maybe somebody knows one who is living if they wanted to confirm the story.

Eric--

You must have dug a lot to find the photo.

"Maybe" some in SOG carried it, but I wondered whether those guys would have thought it was worth the weight on top of all the essential gear they carried.

"But" telling a SOG story might make one worth $700.

It weights twice what you would think. Photo is cropped, Dead VC at his feet.

Eric
I saw that pic
full size it is very strong with emotion of the time
The story I got on your Machete is:
The Guy my buddy got it from new him from a GMC Dealer here in Orlando
He did 4 tours in Nam and was part of a helicopter crew
He relayed a story or how they would fly out to pic up cases of beer and upon returning they would stash a couple in the jungle outside the camp. Then they would sneak out in the night and retrieve them.I guess the machete came in handy for retrieving their stash as well as clearing LZs picture that

Thanks for the update. It was my Dad who got me started in Knife collecting when he sent me a 5th SFG Dagger in 1969. No face-time back then. He would send home cassette tapes once a month.

My Dad did 1 year in Korea(52) and 3 tours in Nam, the last 2 tours out of Northern Thailand. Picture of my Dad in Saigon on his first tour in 67 and one of myself in 81.

Thanks again for a great Knife!

Awesome Pictures, Eric !

I too, tend to blame some of my “weaknesses” on my Dad.

Thanks for sharing and I like that knife too.
