Moseth Knife

Moseth Knife - 10/20/16 11:43 AM

I recently picked up this Morseth knife. I liked the way it looked and the "old yellow" micarta handle. I know nothing about these knives. Can anyone tell me about when it was made and any other details? I'd like also to see a photo of an original sheath.
Thanks,
Buckspen

Here are some Morseth excerpts from a 6-page article on the "best knives" written around the mid-1960's. The third one shows a sheath (sorry about the quality). I believe AG Russell later bought the Morseth rights, and manufactured them.

Steve, thanks for posting this article. I enjoyed reading the Buck part.

Buckspen, I was going to suggest contacting A.G. Russell for information on Morseth.

Thanks, guys. From what I have been able to find doing web searches, I think mine is one of those made by A.G. Russell.

Here's a link the full five-page article, if you're interested. Can you access it OK?

Steve - Yes, that works. I printed it off for reference. I'm not a big fan of Ken Warner's writing style, but it's good information.
Thanks!

He did write about knives - this one's from 1977

A.G. did buy the rights for Moseth and brought in Bob Dozier a Great builder that is pretty famous his self to bring Moseth back. I don't know who does the work now?

this is from AG Russell's website. (I added the emphasis.)

Though it says the knives are made the way they always were, I'm not sure the blades are laminated now, as they were when I bought one from Harry in the mid-1960's.

Morseth from AG Russell now not laminated,
BUT Bob Dozier recalled youth and made new the lineup
"SISU" with laminated D2 inside 410 steel

Thanks Steve. If it's okay, I'd like to share this article with the Buck Forum guys. They will really enjoy it too.

Hey Steve,
it's exactly this book that I had bought in the PX in Heidelberg in 1981 along with my Buck 112. It had opened my eyes... Thanks for posting it! (and sorry for getting OT frown )

Re: Moseth Knife - 03/20/18 02:12 AM

Hi, I recently bought an old, unfinished blade, AG Russell made.
He has a defective stamp - apparently on impact he bounced several times.
Steel laminated carbon, has a point from the test hardness.
The blade was given to my friend, he gave it to his friend,
who made a knife in the image of Harry's Morseth knife
(which is shown in the photo with binoculars and ammunition).
I'm interested in your opinion about what happened?

Re: Moseth Knife - 03/22/18 09:23 PM

what happened was a nasty looking old blank was turned into a gorgeous knife....just guessing, there.

As for the stamp, if manually stamped, which I suspect, yeah, it just bounced, with the hammer. If a machine press, it shifted and nobody caught it. I have no idea how Harry's son was doing things before AG bought him out, nor if blade predates the son trying unsuccessfully to keep the shop going.

Thank you!

I know for sure that this is a stamp A.G. Russel
after they bought Morseth trademark.

Finally there were qualitative photos

Harry would have approved far more of that one, than quite a few which came after.

When you tire of looking at that one, I shall be glad to give you my address.
