Last Days in Bama...

Last Days in Bama... - 02/01/23 12:29 PM

So....I'll be driving up this upcoming weekend for the last of this season's whitetail hunting. Like last year, I was not able to go as much as I'd like..."BUT"...that's the way life goes sometimes.
I have a proposal for all y'all...& maybe, as Kelly hinted, we'll get a way-cool hunting RMK raffled because of it. Everyone's welcome to participate and (at least for now) it costs nothing!
I'm taking one of my "Captain's STASH" knives with me to use on a whitetail or hog, if I'm fortunate to score on one or the tuther. Here's the deal:
* Best Guess: Tell me the following...
* RMK Model
* Options
* Current catalog price
...I don't expect anyone to score perfect on this one..."BUT"...the one who comes closest gets 5 free raffle numbers...!!! Raffle what? You ask?
I'm going to build one just like the one I carry with me. There will be 100 raffle numbers, as in the past with cost per raffle number to be determined by the model and options. This knife will be made and ready-for-delivery prior to the upcoming (2023-24) hunting season.
Even if you do not care to participate in the raffle...PLEASE...play the guessing game. Again: At the onset, the price is FREE!
Stay Sharp, Capt. Chris

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/11/23 03:29 PM

Way late to the party and I really have no idea what to guess. Since you mentioned hogs, I'd say you brought a 1/4" blade. Since said these work better on hogs in the hunting knife thread. Stainless cuz you're in Florida along with a compass and wrist thong. Judging by those packages you've got a variety of blade lengths, couple around 7" and a few around 4" maybe? Out of "The Stash" so it's got to be something special. Thinking it loud here, but that's about all I've got.

I'll leave it up to a "volunteer" to figure up "whom" came closest-to-the-pin as to guessing the exact make-up of the knife I used..."THEN" we'll build one. It can be amended also. For example: If you prefer stainless, and that's what the majority votes for...you'll get it!

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/18/23 09:26 PM

I agree...Old Guy is closest. The Trapper is a big brother to the Pathfinder.

The Capt. fooled me...thinking the Trapper a bit more blade than I had seen him using in the past.

This was an interesting exercise.

Posted by: LarryWW1246

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/20/23 08:54 PM

Oh, heck!

Maybe build it and let the few who are "in" have a chance to buy it at full price?

Having some obstinance from a project leader once, I blurted out to my assistant "You can lead a horse to water...but first you have to be able to get a halter on him!"

Maybe the halter here is offering something outrageous like a "freebie." But that would be ridiculous...and Capt. Chris or the rest of us should not ante up to do that!

Here's some of the possibilities:
* 5 or 6" blade length

* Wood center
* Micarta center
* Rounded butt cap...or not
* Wrist thong...or not

"N-25" it is by a landslide!
"NOW" you can talk about "The REST"! Available center options are:
A) Stag
B) Black micarta
C) Green micarta
D) Ivorite micarta
E) Maroon micarta
F) Red/blue micarta
G) Ironwood
H) Walnut
I) Maple
J) Thuya
....Discussion's now open and///"please"/// defend your position and try and sway everyone you're way.
I care not which option we go with and I have made Trappers up, over the decades, with just about all of these choices...No preference from my end.

this is a good photo resizer.....there are plenty out there....just put on your desktop for when you need it....pick the photo...resize it to 300kb....it'll save it to any place you want....then, it'll post right

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/26/23 03:30 PM

D) Ivorite micarta - looks GREAT with nickel silver and alum./black spacers.

But I could be persuaded to go with:
G) Ironwood - which is always good looking (and practical).

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/26/23 03:48 PM

What about the Rosewood?? Is that still available?
It would look great the Nickel Silver and have a nice dark contrast to the leather spacers.

OK Crew,
Thus far we have:
* RMK Model #25-5"
* The Trapper Model
* Stainless steel blade
* 5 inch blade length
* 1/4 inch blade stock
* Full (cut-down) tang construction
* Thumb notches
* N-25 handle
* Ivorite micarta center
...If we did nothing else this would be a dandy of a hunting knife..."BUT"...(There's that word again)...we still have "things-to-discuss".
* Rounded butt cap or standard
* Duralumin butt cap or nickel silver
* Wrist thong?
* Sheath color, etc...to be determined
...So: Who wants to star?

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/28/23 12:26 PM

Earlier question, in regards to a compass: "NEVER..NO WAY"...on any RMK with a leather handle featured. The butt cap and exposed tang nut
needs be installed to tighten (& sometimes, over time) re-tighten the washers. Hope that clears that one up.
2ndly: If everyone would go back a page and look the 3-Model #25's that Brother Billy posted, you can see what the outside "edge" of a standard butt cap (pictured on top), looks like--verses a rounded one (The other 2). It may help you decide on what you'e voting for.

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 02/28/23 02:07 PM

* Thin and rounded nickel silver butt cap
(I believe a full size nickel silver butt cap is too heavy for proper balance of this knife, therefore either thin and rounded nickel silver or duralumin if full size)
* Black hone sheath
(black looks great with white handles)

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 03/02/23 06:07 PM

OK Crew:
Man: You don't make tallying up easy.
A) NS-(STD)-4 (+ Pappy & - WINDSOR)
B) NS-(RD)-4 (+ Pappy)
C) DB-(STD)-2 ( Including Windsor?)
D) DB- (RD)-6 (IF GCTom meant DB-RD)
So...Let me hear from you.
As it stands right now: A rounded duralumin butt cap get's the nod. I don't care what winds up winning (after we get a little clarity) but I'll tell you "my thoughts".
* Being a tad "full-figured" squared, sharp-shouldered butt caps can "pinch"
* NS butt caps are good for engraving
* NS butt caps (unless it's a 6" Trapper") make the whole package butt-heavy.
...Had this incredible #25 not showed up with that stag...I would have ordered me one "rounded"...just sayin'...& I'm not so sure you can order a "thin" butt cap on a Trapper either...(end of ramble)
Stay Sharp, Capt. Chris

Yes sir, I thought about it.
I then thought I would spend the money when I see the Capt. in Tulsa and spend extra dollars there.
I was feeling stingy today, mailed the check, and then thought I should have just fallen off my wallet.
It was overcast, cold, and windy, so I think I was just grumpy.

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 03/13/23 10:31 AM

Still over half the slots to fill before this thing will happen. I certainly hope I'm not having to refund all of these Paypals and send checks back...but I will if needed.
I'm pulling out of the shop early Friday morning, headed for the AGCA show in Hoover, Alabama. If we're not "done", I'll proceed with the refunds. Thanks to all who have participated..."&"..."OLD GUY": Pick your slots..."&"...anyone else wanting additional slots...have at it!
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: Numbers will be chosen Thursday evening (or not)

Re: Last Days in Bama... - 03/18/23 12:50 PM

Hey, guys--

I saw that most of the slots had been sold, and maybe Capt. Chris was teetering on whether to go ahead with the build.

I can understand that...he can't sell knives as a charitable or money losing operation!

Whoever gets drawn will get a great knife.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi, all my votes for options except stainless steel were rejected. I predict that because of that I probably will win the knife grin regards, Mike
