Mauser C96 - 07/11/22 11:38 AM

Hi, on a completely different topic which may or may not interest the knife guys here; I have a new toy. This is a commercial prewar pistol. Commonly referred to as a Broomhandle Mauser. Pre war as is 1913 not WWII. Best condition for the price I have ever seen, regards, Mike
PS: In standing with the spirit and purpose of this forum, I have also received the latest offering of our esteemed Captain a "Randall Model #23-4 1/2 inch, with awesome stag!" It is indeed awesome. I also got a Randall Model #21 Little Game for A.G. Russell from a long standing order.

Mike,
WOW!! Both are super nice!!!

On the C96,I do not see a red 9 on the grip,is it in 9mm???

Some years ago,a new pistol on the market, the Grendel, featured a fixed magazine fed by stripper clips just like the c96.

Hi Wayne, No it's a 7.63 Mauser also called the 30 Mauser. In it's day it was considered a .357 Magnum. In his book Col. Fairbairn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_E._Fairbairn) of the Shanghai Police, said that when his officers went out against someone reported to carry the 7.63 they all opted for body armor. Fairbain taught the OSS with his fried Col. Rex Applegate. Interesting people and interesting times, regards, Mike

Great thread Mike...and I'm glad you like that bad-ass Gamemaster! The Mauser pistol was also commonly referred to as "The Machine Pistol"! I'm with you: condition is off the charts!
Thanks and good luck with all yer' new "toys"!

That Broomhandle was the same as was used in the Clint Eastwood movie, Joe Kidd, right?

Model #1898, Machine Pistol. Correct you are David. I always thought they it was the ugliest gun ever made. Then, of course, Glock and all the other "squareheads" showed up.
BTW: David: Give me a call, thanks.
Best, Capt. Chris

Mike,
I was fortunate enough t speak with Col Applegate many years ago.
He was one of the few legends that led a storied career.

As you know,he was an OSS officer and years later helped develop the S&W Hammerless into 38 spl.

Speaaking of OSS,did you know that Alexander Sturm (Sturm/Ruger Co) had also been in the OSS????

Hi, in 1964, when I was a young pup I saw From Russia with Love. The bad guy used a Broomhandle and since then I wanted one. Interesting fact is the pistol is all hand fitted and only has one screw, regards Mike.

I posted this photo here on the forum years ago. I can't find the original so I copied it from my post. I bought this C-96 about 20 years ago.
