ammo anyone? - 03/25/21 10:00 PM
Who has bought a box of any kind of ammunition this year? If you did, how much of your retirement fund did it cost?

Re: ammo anyone? - 03/25/21 10:17 PM
I sold 1200 rounds of 7.62 at the gun show this past weekend.

I've made a few trades....can't afford to buy, and have more since...given some away, to needy folks....at this point, you got what you got....AND, for the folks that say "I can't get any ammo" yes you can, all you want to pay for.

Re: ammo anyone? - 03/26/21 09:54 AM
IMO everyone should reload. You can tailor your loads to whatever you want. I used to use my 30-06 to shoot everything from rabbits to moose. All with hand loads.
Now I only shoot a .243 and handguns.
I am good for ammo for years.
I have a supply of "smoke stuff" but now prefer to use my high end air rifles.
Pellets galore.......no problem.
Wayne
Rod,
What you say is true..."BUT"...reloading presses, dies, case trimmers, powder scales, powder, primers and tips are 100% out-of-stock with any supplier I have checked with. It's far..."FAR"... easier to find ammo, at least currently.
Best...(& keep your powder dry),

Capt
Understand what you are saying about presses, case trimmers, etc. and agree. I have been reloading for 35+ years. Mostly because of it being cheaper for me. In a “normal” year I will shoot 8K-10K handgun rounds a year. I/we went through these shortages a few years ago. After that I suggested and helped friends get into reloading as I (lucky) guessed that shortages would happen again.
For us that shoot more than a few boxes a year, when components become available again ( and they will), think about taking the financial plunge to alleviate going through this scenario again.

I bought 100 rounds of .223 JHP for $119 shipped last week.
It was 55 grain and I would rather had 62 grain for hogs but I can’t find any.
Rod,
I "plunged" decades ago, having an RCBS "Rockchucker" and all the trimmings. I was just stating the current conditions for those seeking to get fully involved.
Thanks...and shoot straight!

OK. I’m jealous!
That’s an impressive setup!
Coach
Currently we aren't shooting. What we have is too valuable to try and replace. We do load some but that is limited.
I bought 1000 9mm and 1000 .233 in July. I didn't "need" it, but knew that if the Dems got in, panic buying and shortages would happen.
Really we are in better shape tan most folks. I bought big in September 2012 also.

Reloading is easier than buying, at this time for me. Have been seriously looking at black powder rifles but they aren't carried a lot here.

It's my lifetime achievement!!!
I was always "loading in a corner"...we know....just a small bench tucked into a too small space...at least that was the way it was for me......NOT ANYMORE...I have room, on the other side to set up anything I want....
Love it!!

Rocky that is a great setup.

Chief,
BP arms are not ATF regulated so you may get them on line unless you have restrictions in your area.
You're from LA so I doubt if there are any restrictions.

A business associate has a case of 45 acp he wants to move along. It is ten boxes of fifty rounds in the original shipping box. He does not know how much to ask for it. This is not an offer to sell here on the forum but he asked me to see if I could help him arrive at a price. What say you?

Re: ammo anyone? - 04/14/21 10:55 PM
Around here hollow point 9mm and 45acp is about $1 per round.
Edit to add that FMJ is 60 cents per round.

Agree Nate.
Pap
Best resource I have found is ammoseek.com
Pretty much used around here to set up a base price and then the selling price is determined by how far to drive, how good you can negotiate, or how pretty you are (yep, lots of pretty ladies shooting out here.)

Thanks, Coach. No 45 acp here. The smaller calibers are going for about a buck a pop.

Re: ammo anyone? - 04/17/21 05:53 PM
Almost anywhere has tax I'd sell at a $1.00 a round Plus shipping

Re: ammo anyone? - 04/17/21 07:47 PM
Thanks, Chief. Again, my buddy is old school, would not ship. He may get to just admire his stash of 45 ACP until they come to get it.

Re: ammo anyone? - 04/17/21 08:42 PM
Can't ship ammo via the Post Office and UPS, FedEx have specific rules on shipping ammo. I've been trying to send some 06 ammo to a guide friend in Alaska and finding it nearly impossible. I have reached out to my local gun dealer to see if he can help me. Haven't heard back from him yet.

Pap--
Best way is to fly up there, and properly store and declare your hunting ammo in your checked luggage.
Gives you an excuse to go!

Re: ammo anyone? - 04/19/21 08:49 PM
So...dirt must have gotten pretty expensive, since Cheaper Than Dirt wants $70 for a box of .45ACP!
Maybe I should send them shovelfuls of dirt in exchange for boxes?

Of the times that Cheaper Than Dirt has come into my radar...I've their dirt to be way more expensive than other "dirt"

Re: ammo anyone? - 04/19/21 09:50 PM
CTD was known to be opportunistic price gougers back when the Sandy Hook-related frenzy kicked off. There were overwhelming reports of orders getting canceled so that they could re-advertise the same thing at a higher price.
I don't know why anyone bothers to waste a second of their time checking their website.
As a Texan talking about a Texas company, they can roll over and die and I won't even give them another thought.

Dirt leaves a bad taste in my mouth
I have no idea what 45acp is selling for now. I just got an e-mail listing the same for 899.00 @ 1000. The brand is Mag-Tech, is this what it is going for, if you can get it? They also had one just a little less at 879. I deleted the mail and I don't know who it was from.

Re: ammo anyone? - 05/08/21 05:05 PM
They are racing to the bottom with gunbroker. Academy Sports here had .40 S&W for $25 a box last week and .45 was $35 a box, 2 boxes per customer. You have to hunt for it but it’s out there.
Lots of time spent on the reloading bench the past year...

Re: ammo anyone? - 05/22/21 11:49 PM
There are a couple of Bulls that have been loose down in the River Bottom for a couple of years. The Bottom is flooded so they have been showing up in my yard.
I got my Sheridan Benjamin pellet gun down and thought I might pop them on the rear and discourage them from coming back. I couldn’t find any pellets (.20 cal) and nobody around here has any.
Thought I’d look on eBay.

Well thanks Eric but Im good now.
In fact, I know that I have another almost full yellow box and a full orange box of Diablo Target Pellets somewhere in my ammo shelves. I’ll run across them when I get time.
Thanks again!
