Death From Afar...

Death From Afar... - 01/19/21 02:59 PM

It is the title of Lt. Col. Norman Chandler's series of Marine Corps sniper rifle books. It also (sorta') applies here. This past Friday afternoon, I was fortunate enough to get this perfect 8 point buck! When I say perfect, I am referring to an absolute "0" point deduction off his score as everything measures exact!
I have most certainly killed bigger ones but never a better one, in ref. to measurements. A couple of quick "camera-pics", resized for here. 1st. After I dragged him the 25+ yards that he ran, I got this pic (Notice one of his smaller rubs behind him.):
2nd pic is shot back to the little shooting house I shot him from, from where (approx.) he was shot, although about 20 yards farther behind me at the time I shot the pic. The distance, measured on a zeroed trip odometer read just over 2/10ths of a mile. Later I shot it with my rangefinder and it measure 345 yards.
Best, Capt. Chris

Was it a 6.5 Creedmore? Nice buck!

Pappy,
While I am pleased with the Creedmore's accuracy, we (members at the hunting camp) have lost "4" nice big bucks do to very poor bullet performance, once impacted. This 8 pt. shown here was shot through the heart with a Ga. Arms, 165 Grain Boatail ballistic tip in America's (& mine) favorite: 30-06!
Bad medicine,
Capt. Chris
PS: Trailered-up and waiting on the scales. Notice the license plate!
CCS
PPS: Also notice, by his rank anatomy, he's been "lookin'...& finding Love!

Can't go wrong with that setup. Lots of meat in my freezer from a 165 gr Nosler Partition in both 30-06 and 7mm Mag. Very nice buck Cap.

Cap,

You know the 30-06 has great knockdown power and IMO the best hunting cartridge around.

I reload my 30-06 & .300 Weatherby with 165 grain boattail ballistic tip; flat shooting and deadly accurate.

Buy bullets, primers and powder the scales are tipping against us!

Congrats again on a fine deer.

Nice buck, Cap. Damn good shot, I might add.

30.06 is also the most versatile caliber.

You can load it with any bullet from 55 grain to 220 grain.
