A New Winchester Model 92 - 04/03/19 07:58 PM

So if you don't receive The Blue Press, you're missing out. My latest has a new Model 92 that looks like the real bomb and is on my "want bad" list. Check it out at skinnersights.com , it's called the Bush Pilot and I definitely want one.

Pap,

Here's the Bush Pilot Survival Kit. It says its a takedown 44 Mag. Pretty nice setup.

That, is the ultimate survival setup, except substitute a Randall Model 5-5 Bradford Angler for their knife. With shot shells and power 44 mag loads, it could be one of the best, especially for Bush pilots.

Pap,

I have a 92 takedown in 44-40. It is a great rifle. Mine is a Winchester factory takedown. The 44 magnum would be even better, as the cartridge is easier to find. The takedowns are easy to pack, and my 44-40 leaves big holes in mule deer.

Not that I wouldn't want an original '92 take down 44-40, but I wouldn't want to use it anymore. This new one makes that step with a 44 mag or 357 mag in stainless and makes a lot more sense to pack around and no worries about messing up an antique Winchester. That's what impressed me

Years ago (many) I acquired a Winchester Model 92,octoganal barrel, take down in 32-20.

Before leaving for 'Nam,I shipped it off to P.O.Ackley in Salt Lake City for him to do a reblue, put in his own barrel 16 inch and convert it to .357,install a Wiliams peep sight.

It took more than a year before the rifle was shipped back.

Looks like that new survival package is perfect, with of course, the addition of a Randall Knife.

I have several Skinner sights on my Henry rifles and they are the best.

Agree, but it needs a walnut handle to match the stock.

.44 mag and/or.357 sounds like what I need to carry on my 4-wheeler for hogs.

It would certainly be an upgrade over my .30-30 or my mini 14.

Wayne, what flavors do you have in your Henrys? And, how do you like yours? I've looking at those also.

Coach,
I have several Henry rifles, two are 22lr lever actions one being a Golden Boy,Survival rifle,22lr Mares Leg and the late wife had a youth model single shot, and a pump 22lr

She used to shoot stationary clay pigeons on the back berm 50 yds away and connected all the time.

I found that all the Henry rifles are excellent.

Their customer service is #1 as when I purchased the pump 22,after about a box of rounds in jammed up solidly. I made sure the weapon was empty and shipped it to the Bayonne facility.

A few days later it was returned to me with a letter & E Mail and phone call apologizing for the problem.

I told them things can happen with anything mechanical and that there was no problem.

If you send an e-mail to the company,it will be Mr.Imperato who will answer you even on a Sunday.

I guess by now you know that I do like the Henry rifle products, just take a look at their customer testimonials.

Re: A New Winchester Model 92 - 04/06/19 01:04 PM

Thanks Wayne:
I have a 3 or 4 year old Henry catalogue that I look at frequently. I’ve always admired those rifles but I wondered if they might be too pretty to actually use.

If I decide to do it, I would want a .44 mag in either their “Big Boy” or “All Weather”. I think that a .44 mag might be the ticket to drop a 300lb. hog in his tracks.

I currently mostly use my mini 14 loaded with Hornady Critical Defense. I have used Remington Hog Hammer and it is good also.

.223 is just not enough to drop the biguns unless it’s a head shot. I’m sure they eventually die, but I would rather it be on the spot.

By the way, Henry has a “Survival Kit” on their website also.

Thanks for the info,
Coach

Coach,
The Henry survival kit is just the right thing to have along with their Survival rifle.

There are MANY items in the handy kit but word of advice

DON'T OPEN IT AND TAKE OUT STUFF!!!

It is packed so tight, you will never get it back in!!!

I think that the all weather model would be a good choice.

Wayne,

I remember making a few sales calls with one of my distributors when they had residence in Brooklyn back in the day. Whew, rough neighborhood, no parking anywhere. You'd never know they turned out a quality gun by the inside of that facility. I don't call there anymore since I left the region. Best move I ever made.

Totally amazing that Henry Arms is still making firearms in New York. Their taxes have to be outrageous. Imagine if they relocated to Idaho, their sales and profits would go through the roof.

Agreed Pap, but Kimber and Remington are still here too. Thankfully so, very important to the business.

Re: A New Winchester Model 92 - 04/08/19 09:04 AM

Pappy,
Being that Mayor Bloomberg,at the time was putting the screws to Henry Rifle in Brooklyn, Gov.Christy of NJ payed Henry Rifle $650,000 to move 8 miles to Bayonne,NJ.

The move was made and everyone was happy being that most of the employees lived in NJ and did not have to pay the NY income tax.

Plus Henry Rifle paid many $$$$ in taxes to NY so for a one time fee of $650,000,NJ now gets a lot of tax dollars each year.

I have several Henry rifles and they all perform flawlessly. All of mine are 22's except one 17 which is deadly. the actions are so smooth it is hard to find any gun with a better action.

Re: A New Winchester Model 92 - 04/17/19 07:47 AM

My late wife's rifle was a Henry Youth Model Single Shot Bolt Action 22.

She used to pop stationary clay pigeons at 50 yards all the time at the outdoor range.

That exercise helped her with her recovery from heart surgery.

I e-mailed Mr.Imperato of Henry Rifle about it and he replied signing off as "Doc" Imperato.

Yep,I am a firm supporter of Henry Rifles and they support our troops and police in MANY ways.

Always wanted a 45-70 lever. The brass with octagon barrel is sweet.

Warren,
I agree with you. I like the brass for sure.

Wish it had a big cowboy loop like you can get on a Marlin. Works better in cold weather with gloves.

Re: A New Winchester Model 92 - 04/18/19 07:49 AM

Warren,
I think that you can get the large loop for any Henry Rifle lever action from their parts department.

It would be a definite asset for work with gloves in cold weather.
