Henry Rifle Mares Leg

I am thinking of expanding my Henry Rifle collection to include a Mares Leg in 22lr.

My experience with the company's rifles has been very positive and their customer service is top notch.

Anybody have one?? Comments??

I was thinking for the 22lr model just basically to have as an addition to my collection.
Naturally it will get the occasional workout on the range or plinking.

An update on the Mares Leg.

I finally got the Mares Leg a couple of days after Christmas and within 1/2 hour had it out on the outdoor range and ran about 150 rounds through it before it got way too cold for me.

Now the snow at the range is waist deep to a tall Indian,so I will be getting it broken in at a nearby indoor range until about April when the outdoor range reopens.

First shots showed it to be right on target at 50 yds and no malfunctions even in the bitter cold.

I went to the indoor range yesterday after Church. Gosh! It was colder inside the range than out!!!

I managed to get off 150 more rounds and the Mares Leg was spot on.

Functioned flawlessly. I don't have the holster for it but maybe it might just be my truck gun.

I am thinking about putting a Skinner peep sight on it and Hi-Viz front sight. But that is a project for sometime later,hopefully when it warms up......soon.

First off,Mudbone would make a super nice holster for it and a case as well.

Then he pretty much would what I am thinking of doing and that is put a Skinner peep sight on it as well as a Hi-Viz front sight.

Then he would probably take the rig down to the melon patch and probably start shooting some snakes with it!!

I have know Mudbone for many years. Consider him a true friend.

Dumb question. With the NY SAFE act,does a person need a permit to purchase ammunition over the counter?

In my state you do.

Getting back to the Mares Leg,I am planning on putting the above mentioned items on it in the future.

I read California is doing that in the future.
How do you get a permit for ammo?
Do they restrict the amount?
At our Machine Gun Shoots, ammo is purchased by the pallet load and we split it up - It is typical that 3-5,000 rounds are fired over the 4 day shoots.

No permit to buy rifle or shotgun ammo. Pistol ammo you need to electronic certify that the ammo is for a handgun and you are a permit holder. Not in every store though, seems like Walmart, Dicks, Field and Stream, etc.
One time I purchased 22LR ammo at a Gander Mountain, I was asked if it was for a rifle or handgun.
I believe in NJ you need a firearms permit to buy ammo. Not sure if that applies to all ammo.

Follow-up to earlier post. Stopped in at a Field and Stream store owned by Dicks. Girl at register inputs licence ID from any state she says for pistol ammo. Hummm, I don't know anymore seems like wherever you go the rules are different. What I do know is no out of state shipping into NY. Fortunately PA is 30 minutes away and they'll be happy to swipe my CC. Laws here are total bull #$>!

A friend of mine (retired NYPD) was wanting to purchase some 22lr for her aging father and did not know the current law for NY.

As I had said before,in CT you have to have a pistol permit or firearms exemption certificate to purchase any ammo whether it be rifle,handgun or shotgun.

Put a threaded barrel on any piece and it is now an assault weapon and banned.

Yes,it does make life interesting. Not nice,just interesting.
