Hunting season

Hunting season - 01/16/17 10:09 AM

The Alabama hunting season has been extended this year to include 10 (or so) days into February! Many times I have regretted our season's end coming on the last day of January as I have seen good sign that the rut was still going on. This new deal will help that problem.
I think the extension was helped along by the auto insurance industry. Lots of folks are hitting deer each and every year, and especially during the rut. The bucks are stupid because they have "something else" on their mind...(hmmm.....Wonder what?)
I was just wondering if any other states have instituted such season changes, for good or bad. Please post up if this is the case. I will be returning to the woods later on this week. I will catch up ya'll when the opportunity presents itself.
Best, Capt. Chris

In Idaho they make sure the hunt ends before the rut starts. The only exception is a draw hunt late into the rut that is by specific hunting units, and generally is a black powder hunt.

Tennessee ends the first weekend of January but now runs an additional five days beyond that for antlerless only harvests on private lands to try to control our doe population. Three does a day allowed in most of TN and we get lots of road kills here too. TN also took our buck allotment from three bucks to two this season - we have to be a little pickier now.

LOL - he had enough. I couldn't get the ATV closer than 200 yds to him and had to drag him out of the creek bottom and over a couple of ridges. Pretty sure he weighed the same as a moose by the time I got him out. Thanks Rod.

Dwight,

Congrats! Funny how heavy they get when you have been dragging them for a couple'a hundred yards.

Dwight,

Reminds me of a 8 point I got 7AM opening day I think 04, my season done. Weather turned warm and had to get this one processed. We still had 3 days to go before turning back to LI. Meat was fine in the cooler but we got some strange stares from passers-by. Head and rack looked like yours and yes the big ones are heavy to haul out. I now have a JD Gator cause I'm getting too old for that mule work.
Nice deer, congrats.

Thanks guys, almost left out the good part - got to break in the 19 user I got back in November..

Capt - glad your season has been extended. I know some guys that hunt the Alabama border area with TN and the primary rut usually runs down late November but I've heard down in LA (Lower Alabama) it often runs till late January. What a deal..

Dwight good looking buck. In VA. they have a bows only, does only special. It runs until the end of March and is only good on private land in Roanoke Co.
