Thanks Miles..

I purchased it from the original owners brother in law at a local gun show I did a few years ago.
I had no idea what it was so sent it to the shop for verification.Received a nice letter from Gary giving me the info on the knife. Now I just have to find it.

Jeff,
I don't know how many of these were done. Wasn't it associated with a skeet event that GTR used to have ties to? Old memory here, but I thought it had something to do with a trophy for an old skeet club or event??
Agreed Miles: Nice knife, Capt. Chris

found this: *Randall*
#12 6" Special
Carbon Steel
Brass and Red spacers
Stag handle
Gold Medal set in butt
JRB Sheath

Sent this down to Gary in 1995 for a letter.
He States..This is one of the Black Hawk Indian knives
that we made in about 1977. The group is an organization
of skeet shooters, and I believe we made about 110 pieces.
I have no idea who made the medal.

One of these knives was featured in the Stidham Sale Catalog.

How is the back of the sheath marked? 6, 12 6 or is there something special (BH, etc) for the model? Also, is the knife shop etched on the back in any manner? Thanks in advance for the education.

Re: Blackhawk Indian Knife - 10/15/13 11:53 AM

Thanks Bob..I remember posting that awhile ago.
I believe this is a high end skeet association and at the end
of the year they would present prizes to some of the members.
As I recall Gary was also a member at the time.
I've also been told that the medal is gold but I can't confirm that.Guess I should get that checked out.

No special stamping on the sheath just the number six.
I did notice that the stone pouch is just ever so slightly narrower and the stone is different no markings on it.

Jeff-n-Bob,
Thanks: It's good to know that..although old..my memory still serves me well (sometimes). I think the sheaths are, pretty much. #12-6", "Sportsmans Bowie" sheaths. Most of them that were sewn by Maurice Johnson only dislayed the blade length identification. The #12-6","Little Bear" had the capital letters "LB" on some.
I asked Tom Leschorn if he had anything to do with the medallion and he did not. I cannot advise as to whether it was shop-installed or an add-on furnished and assembled by the skeet club. Whatever is the case, it's a wonderful knife and is in most excellent condition!Best. Capt. Chris
PS: I also think I can make out the infamous "storage dent" on the stone pocket flap?? CCS

Re: Blackhawk Indian Knife - 10/01/19 12:51 PM

Sure looks like a model 5 blade grind to me, with a slight clip. Nothing like a 6" LB or Sportsman's.

Sheath also appears to be a model 1/5 sheath.

Re: Blackhawk Indian Knife - 10/01/19 01:54 PM

Joe,
I think you mean #5-6 as to the sheath. It is not a #5, UNLESS...It was special-forged with a BCP.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Ya, that is what I said.

1/5 = 1 or 5 as to sheath.

Model 5 with light clip or BCP as you call it. I think that is exactly what it is.
