JULY/AUGUST 2011 - EDO Photo Contest 2011/2012 - 07/07/11 10:05 AM
EDO Photo Contest Rules:
The EDO Photo Contest is specifically designed to encourage and promote photographic excellence, and the photos are judged based on their technical and creative merits.
2) The First Place winner receives an award.
If the judges determine that a Second Place winner is appropriate, one will be determined. However, the Second Place winner does not receive an award, but instead the photo becomes eligible for the Annual EDO Photo Contest. Note that not all EDO Photo Contests will have a Second Place winner.
4) Each person is allowed to submit only one photo, and the photo must be their own original work.
5) The EDO Photo Contest will be run semi-monthly, specifically for two-month periods.
NEW!! THE THREE JUDGES will select the winner of the Annual EDO Photo Contests. If one has more than one photo in the Annual EDO Photo Contest, meaning that one was First or Second Place in more than one semi-monthly EDO Photo Contest, one has the option to include only one photo, so as not to compete against oneself.
7) A photo that has been submitted for an EDO Photo Contest cannot be submitted again for subsequent EDO Photo Contests.
8) Naturally, all photos must include at least one genuine Randall Made knife.
9) The three judges are: Edoardo Garofoli, Jim Gates, and Tony LaPetri.
-----------------------------------------------
Please note the following:
A) - Photos are entered in an EDO Photo Contest by posting them directly to this thread, either as an attachment or hosted externally.
B) - The EDO Photo Contest thread is not for discussing the rules, though complementing someone on the photo that they entered, in a courteous and positive manner, is permitted.
C) - NOW OPEN: THE JULY/AUGUST CONTEST - YEAR 2011/2012
- This EDO Photo Contest closes at 12PM EST on SEPTEMBER 10, 2011.

Here is my photo for the contest. You will notice that I have become increasingly fixated by RMK, so much so that I had custom green and gold M&M's made with the Randall patch artwork to use in my layout.
I shudder to think what I will do next. I can't wait to see what other great photos are posted

Custom M & M's. I didn't know a person could do that. I guess you don't eat them when you get those.
Very cool!

I'm entering this image for a friend of mine in Argentina. Roderick Römer is a hunting guide and bush pilot in South America. Roderick writes:
"Yesterday walking beside a lake in the Venezuelan plains (South America) I found a nest of a bird called "Ibis Tautaco" (Theristicus caudatus). Their eggs are green, which together with the green plain by the rains and the green Micarta handle knife make an interesting picture that I want to share."

Scooter - 07/29/11 08:41 PM
This is our pet squirrel, "Scooter".
He seems to be trying to decide which tool will best help crack his pecan.

Re: Scooter - 07/29/11 08:53 PM
Hey Wally,
And now for his next trick he's gonna crack that nut with one of those Randall's. Please tell me he's house-trained??? Cute photo whata ham.
I think he's "going nuts" trying decide between the two.
I know I would be with that choice. Great knives! Scooter, too.

Re: Scooter - 07/31/11 05:51 AM
OK... here's the squirrel story... In 1994, only a couple of months after Lori and I were married, I came home one day to find a nest on the ground at the edge of the woods at the backyard. As I kicked the nest from our yard back to the woods edge, an embryonic looking hairless creature rolled out. My wife is a natural "Elle May" and our first " pet" squirrel lived eight years. ( they live 2-3 in the wild) Over the years as folks have found out about our love of wildlife, and Loris' seemingly natural talent, more came our way. I can't count or remember how many squirrels we've had, but we have managed to return a few to the wild. With the help of the local Audubon society and a couple of local vets and animal rescue organizations, we've rescued dozens of squirrels, some baby birds, a kestrel, which is a raptor, similar or kin to a falcon, a broad shouldered hawk, possums, racoons, various snakes, and only two weeks ago, a knee- high fawn, that was struck by a car. As far as " housebreaking" goes, some are better than others. In the best cases, they're very nearly domesticated, but still they can only be handled by us. Now for the Randall content... about the same time we found our first squirrel, my wife and I were at a local gun and knife show when I extolled the beauty and craftsmanship of a model one on Ron Stepps table. Before we left that day my newly acquired wife had coaxed me into buying it. Whatta sweetheart. Today, as I write this, we have a similar number of squirrels, as we have RMKs. Kinda funny, huh?
My entry, a model 7 Fisherman-Hunter and model 8 T&B (both great users) with a mess of lake fish.

The contest is suspended
Currently the situation is not clear, as you all know.
I have just returned from abroad.
Pls. give me time to understand what happens.
Right now the jury is not complete.
Ciao Edo come stai ?
O c'è qualcosa che non so ? Sii chiaro
Ciao Edo the situations seems clear to me. The forum is open: many Randall lovers, excellent discussions, beautiful pictures of terrific Randall knives....is a pity that you suspend the contest right now that I was starting to make decent pictures even though I still can not upload...!
Or is there something that I don't know ? Be clear.
Stefano

Hi Stefano,
I'm fine, I sent you a pm.
Thanks a lot,
E.
....something I don't know! Be clear....
STEFANO let's give Edo the time he needs to re-organize himself....
He spent last 30day abroad....once back...he finds everything(almost) changed...!
Best
Guido
Edo,
I'm travalling untill next Sept 13th but not sure following the Forum everyday...
I hope you'll be able to re-start the contest we all loved so much.
Just in case everything will be fine with you and news judges...here's my post for Aug-Sept Contest:
Nice...Guido,
I too hope this piece of forum history continues. Rhett was always fond of this particular segment of internet Randall collecting. Terrific comparative photo! Thanks for posting up...and be safe in your travels. I hope to be able to catch up with you in Birmingham.
Best, Capt. Chris

Re: JULY/AUGUST 2011 - EDO Photo Contest 2011/2012 - 09/05/11 09:35 AM
Hello everyone,
I’m pleased to announce that the Edo Award will continue.
In my absence I knew that the forum has been closed.
I do not know exactly why.
I know that this award was born on this forum with the “blessing” of Rhett Stidham.
I will continue this tradition.
Unfortunately I have received the resignation of our friend Ken Lunde. I had to look for a new judge.
The new judge is Tony LaPetri. Tony has all the requirements.
He has been an Art Director in the advertising business for 35 years. He has hired and worked with many photographers during this time.
Exceptionally this EDO Photo Contest closes at 12PM EST on SEPTEMBER 15, 2011.
The judges are: Jim Gates, Tony LaPetri, Edoardo Garofoli
Edo, Jim & Tony,
Glad to have ya'll "on board" for this worthwhile cause. I hope fellow Randall knife freaks will continue to participate in this contest. Although I have never won an Edo ball cap, I never tire of admiring the entires. Thanks also to Ken for his expertise during his time judging.
Best, Capt. Chris

It is my pleasure and honor to announce that the Winner is:
LITCH
The surrounding color helps the knife to really stand out.
Congratulations!
But it seems appropriate that a Second Place be awarded, which goes to:
DALE
Dale's has a suggestive "atmosphere"
Congratulations!
The two photos are eligible for the annual contest.
Regards
Congratulations to you 2. I gotta say that Peter Kaufman's "M-n-Ms" got to me too! A lot of good choices this time. I guess this "photo thing" is catchin' on!
