Clarence Moore sheath...........? - 01/01/11 10:49 PM

I am thinking this model 3-5 is early '50's.....maybe late '40's? I'm basing my guesstimate mainly on what I think is a Clarence Moore sheath (zig zag stitching?) and the wider soldering. Am I close?

Dave,

You continue to amaze! shocked That's a model 7 you have. The shop offered a 5 1/2" Model 3 right after the war, but retired that length in 1948 when a 5" Model 7 was introduced. A 5" Model 3 wasn't offered until 1967. Check the blade thickness: You'll see it's from 3/8" stock and not 1/4". For sure that's a (gorgeous) Moore! I put both knife and sheath ~ mid 50's because of the choil grind. That is some of the last work Moore did for the shop.

Best,

Ron,
Did you mean to say 3/16" thickness? Thanks for the clarification.
