Sure looks brown on this side of the pond. I guess it's a canvas and does look sort of light for brown.

I just remembered my knife is on page 1 of this very thread,sat on the front of a Polk County fire truck no less,I think you'll see what I mean about the colour.

It's green "linen"...not canvas, & it is not the brown that is around from time to time. The Randall shop uses green canvas also, but only on "CDT" models. Any 1/4" stock, full, exposed tang will be green linen if supplied from Randall.
Also: The new #28 is available in green "linen" also, even though it is 3/16" stock, therefore requiring a narrower "slot". In short: If it's this type of construction (slotted, full, exposed tang)...It's green linen.
I just got my cast off yesterday late afternoon (one month). As soon as I quit whining I'll get the camera out & post some photos.

I have another one ordered from the shop the same as this one except with a border patrol handle and left hand sheath.
Randall knives are like potato chips, you can't just have one.

Fireman's Special just arrived and I couldn't be more pleased! And it really is special with the BP handle using some jade green G-10 from Jim Behring and NS full hilt. The guys at Randall ground and smoothed out all the places that fit together so well that you cannot feel where handle meets tang or hilt. Thanks Randall.

IMO these should be shipped with waxed sheaths sewn with fire resistant thread standard as firemen usually end up getting wet on the job, also it goes without saying fire too.

No, it doesn't look like maroon micarta.
It's some kind of brown canvas micarta and the butcher paper says "CW", too.
It is a very tough knife but pretty nevertheless

This is a Randall Made knife as far as I know. If memory serves, Treeman had some nice white micarta and was getting Randall to put it on some knives for them, this one included.

It's not a re-handle to my knowledge. Now, this was in 2004 according to my notes.

I'll take some more pics of the tang side tomorrow.

It's hard for me to believe that I wouldn't have noted that it was a re-handled knife, or read the description wrong when I purchased it.

But I am not infallible.

Thanks Capt. I was going through my notes and now can't swear it was Treeman. It might have been Perry Miller. I can't find all my receipts but clues lead me to Perry too.

Most of the receipts from Treeman have faded to unreadable. (Used to just get a yellow handout from the shop and your CC payment on a piece of wafer thin CC machine paper and that's it).

Jim cut and slotted many types of handle material. Perry, myself and "others" would buy it from Jim and submit it on #14 room orders. "Almost Always" there were no issues. Occasionally it would not measure and would be rejected "but" white and other phenolics were made without anything remarkable noted.

That #14 looks like a #16-7", Divers, with sawteeth and a heavy double hilt! How long is the blade and how "wide".

Treeman stuff was generally(if I remember correctly) marked with some type of coloring at the edge...I got what little they had remaining(as I recall) wasn't much, and these are what's left....I could be off, it has been a while...I do not know how the Treeman material would have gotten to the shop without some assistance....I do not think that Randall would be buying from Treeman....BUT....

Randall did not buy any, to the best of my knowledge. In my case, like you, I bought it directly from Jim and entered it in on my scheduled orders. I think Duke McCaa, Greg Gutcher and a couple of other dealers did as well....&...of course, the Randall customers who, individually, purchased it and submitted it to the shop to have their knives made.
I think it became a hassle for Jim and he sold off the pieces he had slotted to his customers. To me, he sold me (maybe) a dozen slotted pieces but shipped me a "half sheet" that had "not" been cut or slotted!

Man, you have a good eye! Damn.

Hmm… It was sold to me as a #14 - 7 ½ Attack. (Perry or Treeman).

BUT… it *does* have a slightly shorter blade and a narrow blade.

The blade is 7 ¼ inches long, just over 1 ¼ “ wide at widest (and 1 1/8” at hilt) and exactly ¼” thick.

Maybe that’s why I always thought my #14 CDT was so massive. That blade is (without the sawteeth) 1 ½” wide and 7 ½” long, and just under ¼” thick.

My #18 by comparison (with the same blade profile/ grind lines) is 1 3/8” wide and 7 ½” long and just under ¼” thick.

So, the blade on the “#14 Attack” is shorter and significantly narrower than the #14 CDT. And shorter and slightly narrower than the #18. But a bit thicker than both.

After receiving the #14 CDT (direct from Randall) I always thought the #14 Attack had a narrower blade because of the sawteeth. I don’t have any other #14s to compare to. Have I been wrong all this time? Is this blade normally, even with sawteeth, closer to 1 ½” wide on a #14 Attack?

Did I just get a slightly narrower #14 Attack? Or did Perry or Jim miss it too? (It was def. one of those two).

But it’s crazy how good your eye is, what you see. I guess that comes with having seen so very very many Randall knives. Scary good eye.

I can take more pictures if you want and start a new thread.

Jumping in...and maybe off base, but if the knives in question came with the shop's wrap still on them, they should be "documented" by what is written on the butcher's paper.

About 1/3 of my paperwork is missing; after we moved I still can't find it. Had it in two accordion folders and one folder is missing.

But when I purchased a knife from Perry (e.g., from his website), it didn't always come with the shop paper. It was always in a USPS Priority box. But he did send detailed receipts. Only, I'm missing some - and those for these two knives.

Would that it were so easy. Not in this case.

Just for consideration...

When I started accumulating RMKs, I started to number them in the order I got them, put a tag or stick-on label with the inventory number on the knives and wrote that same number on the shop paper and the box.

And...for some safeguard against the knives being stolen and maybe to help recover them if they were, I store almost all the boxes and sheaths separate where they are not likely to be found by a burglar. I also put a string tag with the inventory number on the sheaths.

I know of a number of instances where knives were taken, but the thieves could not find or did not know to look for the sheaths.

This helped one dealer to recover a large loss when a second buyer took one of his knives to a local gun shop asking about getting a sheath for it.

Just a thought...after all these sort of add up over time, and the money invested increases as well.

P.S.: In addition to photos for the record, I also keep an Excel file with all the information about each knife. You might be surprised how fast the total investment will add up!

Thanks Scott. I didn't think Jim was a dealer at the time, but he often had some really nice Randalls, a lot of nice older ones too.

And thanks Larry. I do have a detailed Excel spreadsheet. That's where my "notes" are.

And I sort of do all you have suggested. Keep the sheaths separate, etc. New Randall boxes are in tubs.

But I had all the receipts, most of the butcher paper, and other paperwork, including old catalogs, newer catalogs, RKS newsletters, other company catalogs in two accordion folders and cannot find one of them after moving.

Some of the butcher paper was in a tub. It was a little messy. But I did have a pretty good system.

I began the spreadsheet almost right away and did an inventory in 2005. Another inventory in 2007. And one just recently. It's pretty detailed, but not perfect.

But in the end, I only got my knives from Randall direct and 3 or 4 other sources. I never bought a knife from Ebay, for example. So that makes it easier to narrow stuff down.

Thanks guys. In the end, I'm not too worried about the lost receipts - after all, we all have heard the mantra: "Buy the knife, not the story." (Although receipts are so so very nice).

Just received my non-catalog Fiteman's Special from Nordic. Standard black micarta with finger grooves a pocket-sized Hercules no doubts ! Wondering what kinda grind it has came exceeding sharp ! A good choice for Capt. Chris's "bug-out" build. I think
