WW II Model #1

Hi, I saw this recently and thought it might be interesting to those here. I have no association with the seller except as an occasional customer. Here is the description:

"PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Rare and early Randall fighting knife, with an interesting signed letter from the previous owner, whose father purchased and carried this knife during WW2 while serving in the 101st Airborne Div. and again during the Korean War serving with the 11th Airborne Infantry Div. This very knife was then given to his son, who carried the knife during the Vietnam War, while serving as an LRRP/Ranger in Co. H, 52nd Infantry. The letter states the sheath was replaced at this time with a Randall sheath sent to him by his father. The knife was sold in 2016 by the original owners son to our consignee. The letter states "this Randall knife has been through 3 wars" and it shows to an extent. The bowie tipped now unmarked blade measures 7 3/4 inches , showing signs of sharpening. There are a few tiny nicks along the edge, which still retains a dangerous sharpness. Over all length is 12 1/2 inches. Original brass guard with ends swept rearward, 26 leather washers on the handle, and aluminum pommel with nut. The guard has some very slight play however overall the handle is tight. The Randall replacement sheath is missing the pouch on the front for a stone, which appears to have been intentionally removed. This old Randall and it's owners served their country well through two generations and three all out Wars."

that is what is sometimes referenced as a "basement" Springfield and likely assembled after Larsen's involvement the war effort in the knife making business, and possibly even after the war.

The knife was made in Springfield, Mass. Originally, these knives had Bo's blessings and were blade-marked with an identification indicating such: Randall Made Springfield, Mass.
The quality, fit and finish were not to be compared to Orlando, Fl. Model #1's..."BUT"...it did get knives in the hands of the W.W.II soldiers! This collector (Me) does not own one as I never considered them a Randall.
After the war was over there a number of "leftover parts-n-pieces were assembled to sell as this example you have shown.

Hi, thanks, this is information I didn't know. I had no intention of buying this. The seller is a gun dealer who sometimes makes "mistakes" on his descriptions. I was told years ago buy the "gun" not the story, regards, Mike
