Sunday Leftovers - 02/19/23 10:02 AM

So...Members,
We have a "stag" day. We have a "micarta" day. We have pairs-n-trios days". We have a "wood" day. We have a "fighter" day... What about the "rest"?
I can think of a couple (or thirty) RMKs that would fit this category...can't you? It will be interesting to find out, at least!
So...What think you? Here's an example to help us "Randallholics" fill the week.
Stay Sharp...All Y'ALL!

Walker,
I believe the knife sheath is for a Model 20. And the hatchet sheath would be for an RMK hatchet (not sure which Model # head).
It's buried, or I would dig it out and see if Greg stamped anything on the back (I don't believe he did, IIRC).

Re: Sunday Leftovers - 02/20/23 11:26 AM

Michael,
Have no idea who altered the butt and added the gold coin. I acquired the knife off Ebay in 2007 and at the time I knew enough about RMK's to know that the shop did not add the coin, but I thought it was interesting and got it anyway. It was a Buy Now not an Auction and I knew the coin was worth at least $200 at the time by itself.
A couple months later I was at the shop and everyone there was able to look at the knife, Gary, Scott and Jason. They all confirmed that the knife did not leave the shop that way nor was it altered by the shop. Gary informed me that the silver part that the coin is attached to was in fact fine silver and the spacer underneath was likely brass or similar. All agreed that the coin was probably attached with some sort of epoxy. Gary concluded by saying it appeared to be very good workmanship.
As it is today, the coin itself is worth close to $300. I think it is likely an older RMK that was cleaned up and modified because there is some very small pitting that was buffed out and there is some light scratching on the blade from either use or sharpening but all in all I think it is an interesting piece.

Re: Sunday Leftovers - 04/23/23 07:26 PM

Got this from another Authorized Dealer at the Blade Show last year.

It started out as a Model 12-9"-#14 Grind, with the features shown, but I was told that a flaw in the blade near the point required shortening it to a Model 14 length.

Curiously enough, I was also told it's a "One-Of-A-Kind". In essence, a Model 14-CDT, NS2, FCH, ASP-blk, CW, #2, NSB, MC1.

Sunday Leftovers:
"&" a dating lesson...Made real easy:
I'll explain. Model #1-7" in the plain...brown wrapper (almost)> Tight-stitched Maurice Johnson roughback sheath...Butterfly-stitched...Baby dot snaps..Carbon steel blade (O1 Swedish tool steel) blade...Brass double hilt...Spacer-stock with a wide center spacer...Leather handle...Duralumin butt cap...Date it was made? 1984. A "perfect example" of a mid 80's RMK.
The last couple of photos "should" confirm all-of-the-above!

Not a Randall - I know!
It's a George Herron 40th anniversary offering. Sarah Brady did the 'scratching' on them. Enjoy it I hope!

Those are scarcer than Hen's Teeth!
I searched for one a number of years with no luck.
George Herron selected Sandra Brady for the Scrim and she captured his essence.
Great collectible!

It's "Anything can happen day"...or Sunday Leftover Day, whichever you prefer. This one is officially "RARE"!

I think not Larry. It came to me, via Tommy Clark, outta' Rhett's shop after his passing. Pete looked at it and said it looked real and was made in the shop??? Who knows?. I had Greg make the Ostrich sheath a decade (or so) ago.

Capt. Chris...

Thanks for the backstory.

Although they might "look alike," every RMK is a standalone knife.

I went through my records just looking at Model 1's with stag marked as "Keep" because I liked a knife when I bought it at a show or it arrived from wherever I bought it.

Six of them...and if I laid them side-by-side to select just one to keep...it would be a hard decision. Each of them is "perfect" in its own way.

Re: Sunday Leftovers - 12/10/23 02:04 PM

Sunday storms happening here today. Here's a way-cool leftover. 1st re-handle Jim did for me (Treeman) on a 4 1/2" Model #4 with the original 3/16" stock knives "FLA S" blade stamp! You cannot imagine how fine it feels in your hand!
Stay Sharp,
Capt. Chris
PS: Scagel-esque styled handle...(& the deep, amber stag doesn't suck either!)...Mosher sheath...CCS

Been some time since anyone's had "leftovers". How 'bout this Model #18, engraved and silver inlayed by Jere Davidson...

Fabulous 18!

Is the wood a sleeve over the SS tube handle?

Too dressy to take into the boonies, but it sure is pretty.
