Help Me Identify old Pilot's Randall - 11/11/20 01:27 PM

Hi! I've been going thru this site and it's amazing. I thought I'd ask for some help from you guys in identifying my knife. This knife was give to me by my wife's grandmother. Her 2nd husband was Doug (see engraved in knife). As always, there's what you know and what you hear.

Here's what I know:
Doug was an amazing man. He would take my wife's grandmother (my kid's great grandmother) to his war pilots reunion. She said the general who started the Tigers' family would show. He loved her so and he used to play guitar for her and tell stories of he and his friends "over the hump". This was his 2nd wife and they married late so we don't have any relationships with them although I found a post in Linkdin that talks about him and other flying tiger pilots.

Here's what I've been told:
He flew for the Flying Tigers. He flew in China against the Japanese protecting supply runs(for China) "over the hump". I was told that's WWII but I don't know how he got this knife because it seems based upon what you guys say here that this wouldn't fit the vintage. I was also told he served in Korea so that might be it but I don't know if that's correct.

Anyway, my wife's grandmother gave this to me hoping I could use it on my elk hunting trips. I pulled it out on one of the trips and an old timer told me to put it away, "that's not what this knife is for". Anyway, here it is:

This info is all I have. Very scattered.

$5000+ knife! I would NOT use it for hunting!

Wow! I had no idea Thanks Bill. Does anyone have any comments on what I said? When this knife was likely made? Anything else interesting? I appreciate all of your thoughts!

Also, my mother in law says she likely knows who wrote this post if we want to go get the information proving up some of this.

It's a last half 1950's knife.

No Orlando stamp, Heiser stamped sheath. There are probably some other tells which could narrow it down, but my guess, it's in that 5 year period.

Great knife!

I have 7 kids so I may sell it. Life is expensive for us and this is not a blood family member who owned it so it's not really as important to us.

Depending on the value.

Thanks Eric! Beautiful.

Hey, quick question: why does my sheath not have a rivet on the opposite side of the lift dot?

Ok, I’m sending to you Joe to authenticate. I emailed you obituaries from my wife’s Grandmother and Doug. Edited to hear back!

I meant excited to hear back. So because they forgot to put the rivet in does it effect the value? Better or worse?

Re: Help Me Identify old Pilot's Randall - 11/15/20 10:13 AM

Does not affect value

A quick follow up per a few of you requesting: I sent it to Joe Dorsky for authentication. By the way, what a great person he is. So very cool and such a professional. I’m glad I got to know him if only a little bit.

Here’s his authentication sheet.

The sheath stamp is barely legible on the rough/skin side of the leather. Anyone know how to bring it out a little more?
