Nuts, or no nuts?

Nuts, or no nuts? - 01/22/20 01:50 PM

Am I correct in assuming that the only handles that receive nuts on the butt are the models with full leather handles? I know that this sounds funny, but I'm serious.

Any CDT RMK with a butt cap (not a butt plate) has a nut (female), threaded to accept the tang threaded (male). The "exposed nuts" appear only on leather knives these days but..."back-in-the-day"...exposed nuts were the norm on all of them!
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris
Below are 2 examples, to show my point. I just had to do a "quick-Dig" into my STASH 1st!
Older (Low "S") Model #8-4" in black micarta with the (then normal) installed "exposed" nut.
Newer Teardrop-shaped Lignum Vitae handles Model #8 with the "internal" nut...
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

Don't the butt plates also have a female-threaded piece silver-soldered to them?

Rob,
Scott can address this, probably better than can I, but I think:?
* The butt plate is silver-soldered to a wood-type screw and then, with added epoxy, the butt plate "&" attached screw are screwed into the butt end of the handle material.
Best, Capt. Chris

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear, I meant only the leather handled knives have the exposed nut on top of the butt.

"Currently" that is correct!
