See you next year!

These 3 photos are amateur at best, but it's my favorite display of the show, Mitchell Harrison's unparalleled collection of 1940s All Purpose Fighting Knives, including the phenomenal "Zacharias" type fighter, as well as a 1942 era "Commando". !!

Once again, amatuer shots, but hope you get the idea. This is Scott and Gail Maynard's collection of model 25s, including his engraved presentation from Randall Made Knives on the occasion of his 25th year of service to the Randall shop. (NOT Factory!)

Aaron Johnson's display of a sizable collection of collateral ephemera and items associated with Randall Made Knives. Many of you already know Aaron is, for lack of a better term, the Shop Formans "sidekick and protege' at the Shop.

Re: Blade Show 2019 Photo Album - 06/09/19 09:37 PM

Cookies! (Courtesy of Dr.Workmans daughter)
At the Saturday morning (8am) annual meeting of the Randall Knife Collectors Club. I have no exact figure on attendance, but a pretty good turnout. As always, Scott Maynard led us in prayer, there was news from the President (the good Capt), news from the shop, and an excellent presentation on the charity the RKCC has chosen to support.
Becky Caruso gave a great talk about the very humble beginnings and how it has so quickly grown, and I speak from personal experience when I tell you it's a great cause. When soldiers deploy to hostile areas, many do not have the benefits of living on a "Foward operating base". Often there are scouts, observers, intelligence gatherers, and a full gamut of jobs requiring them to be on their own, self sufficient without a roof, running water, and so many amenities we take for granted daily. This is the target group of soldiers this great program aims to support. In 2004 it was a very common occurrence for myself and 8-11 other men with me to operate "outside the wire" for up to 8 days at a time. The charity is called J.O.S.H (just our soldiers helpers) and I hope James and Becky will chime in with more details. They've already shipped hundreds (if not a thousand or so) boxes of basic need items, I would guess like toothbrushes, toothpaste, beek jerky, hand sanitizer, etc, etc. and I see this as something great to get behind. Postage is awful! Bo Randall was all about supporting the American fighting man and I'm sure we all are too!
As you can read in the newsletter, (if you don't have one, you will soon) a memorial fund raiser, supported by a raffle has been instituted to create a memorial fund in the name of Suzanne Lambert, to support the program J.O.S.H.
You can bet your bottom dollar Kenny Lambert loves his wife with every bit of his heart, and she is dearly missed by all who knew her. Recently other members have passed, Ed Giles, Cal Barnlund, Alvin Hightower, and a little further back, Randall giants like Perry Miller and Rhett Stidham. I apoligize in advance for anyone I've missed. This memorial will help keep the memory of our lost friends and family, while supporting brave men and women who put their lives on the line without question or reserve for the love of the soldier in the foxhole next to them and for freedom and the American way. No greater love!
There were also several drawings, everything from RKCC coffee cups to one lucky lady who took home a brand new Copper Companion! I even won an A.G. Russell knife that his company produced as gifts for all the Randall shop employees this past Christmas. (Am I an honorary employee now???)

Peter Kaufman... WE have missed seeing you these past few years.

Wally, great pictures and summary. The meeting was great! Jimmy Bedgood made an appearance and brought along a knife he made that was auctioned off.

Wally is pretty dead on about J.O.S.H. almost all of us are touched in 1 way or the other by service men and women.Kathys passion has long been to support them, WE share that passion. Thank you to Tom and the Maynards for your co contributions =]

Re: Blade Show 2019 Photo Album - 06/11/19 07:47 PM

I have to tell you that I believe even with the problems regarding the Renaissance Waverly issues, that this was the BEST Blade show in the past 15 years!!

Cash was flowing, moods were great, friends galore everywhere!

Great displays, Mitchell and Duke McCaa's awesome collections that they brought to sell/trade (including my favorite of the show, an all stainless STN model 18-5 1/2, WOW), Buck running around making us all pose all weekend!! Wayne Jordan making a two day cameo! Tommy from Blue Ridge wheeling and dealing!!

Caps meeting was awesome with about half a dozen people giving input, some great giveaways, including a Randall (ty Gary), a beautiful drop point knife (that I won!!) and a funny $20 commemorative story to boot!!

And I do believe that Gary Clinton's seminar on the relationship with RMK and NASA and it's history from the late 50's to today was the most informative seminar I've EVER attended!! He was (along with Sam) very gracious in his information leaving guesswork behind while giving us some educated speculation on who, what when and where!! Aaannnddd Gary gave away a model 17 to a lucky attendee!!!

What a show!!! Don't let anything keep you from next year's Blade! With the continued rising economy it is going to be even greater!! As if that's possible!!

Re: Blade Show 2019 Photo Album - 06/11/19 08:42 PM

KenKan's (Kenny lambert) fantastic display of model 20s, including a brown micarta Ward Gay, low S Ward Gay, Seperate S, and a couple of carbon blades, plus a slew of nicely optioned more modern blades.

Mitchell Harrison is always "patient ", or perhaps "tolerant" is a good word, while setting up his display at BLADE he let me handle the "Zacharias" and a 1942 Commando, both knives have the mysterious red initials carved in the butt, as far as I know, only 4 RMKs exist with the carved initials in the butt. Anyway, I love handling those rare oldies!

Michael, you and the Mississippi mafia are the true "keepers of the watch". DW's family is always nearby, and a couple others, like Rob Windsor help "pull guard". And of course, James and Becky, ever faithful. Lori and I really enjoy it, a place to rest from time to time, and a great place to meet everyone! Bunches of people introduced themselves to Lori and I, so it's great to put faces to all the names in the Randall community. It almost feels like I should be paying someone to hold my spot!

Re: Blade Show 2019 Photo Album - 07/12/19 08:07 PM

That is from south park eric. The episode was about the changing of the meaning of the word. Fag does not refer to homosexual males like it used to. younger folks now use the word to reference annoying and inconsiderate people.

The word "gay" now means "lame", stupid, etc.

The Harley reference was in the episode and the metaphor behind the story.

the episode was from 2009. Most of the kids nowadays don't watch it. They are too preoccupied with social media and/or to stupid to understand the satire.

Yup, that's the attraction for me.

A little shopping here'n'there, maybe drop off a sheath project, but meeting familiar faces and swapping war stories is the main reason.

Ain't that the truth.

Somewhere I have a pic of their cookies, each the size of a dinner plate.

I had a great time at Blade this year.
A big thank you for all the great displays and to all the people that “guarded” them.
I made some new friends at the display tables.
Two Border Patrol Agents from New Mexico asked if there really was a was a “Border Patrol” RMK and if there was if i had ever seen one and what it looked like. The next day they came back and one of them had a huge smile on his face and a #14 RMK in his hands.
I had the honor of taking Ronnies daughter and son in law around to all the people that knew her dad and see the surprised look on their faces.
Saturday i spent time with my son just walking the isles and almost missed Garry's great lecture on RMK and NASA and that night had supper with 17 others at the Marietta Diner!. I think our table created a fire hazard. A little wheeling and dealing with the Capt., James Behring and Amy Grace and it was time to head home. Thanks for all the great photos that have been posted.
And thanks to Billy, Ken, Wally, Lori, DW, Dano, Ram and Becky for their friendship.
