Vintage Randall, Ebay

Vintage Randall, Ebay - 02/13/19 06:41 PM

With the recent dust-up concerning what is or isn't a legitimate knife, I was somewhat reluctant to post this knife available on Ebay.
I have no idea if this is a one-off, or something else. What I do know is was well used. The top half of the sheath is removed. Just looking for some open and calm discussion about what we're looking at here. My first thought was it looked like an early 19 but this knife pre-dates that. So your thoughts are?

Warren, That knife was part of a duo sold last year off of ebay. The other K.L. (Kenneth Lindsey) had a 7" blade with a blood groove. Wonder what happened to the other blade.

I remember the blood groove knife Eric. This one is a mystery.

It appears to be a very early form of a Model 11

But not a drop point which followed. Isn't it odd that it somehow resembles a 19? Just my opinion.

It no longer has a point. The top bevel is clearly pointing down, but use and sharpening have changed the appearance. It could have also been tipped at one time.

It does appear that the point might have been reshaped.

Thanks for helping with the grind.
My thought was the the width of the blade was more than an 11 from the 50's. I could not visualize what the 11 looked like before it was ground down to this knife.
I would like to see an 11 from the 50's next to this knife, so that I could see the similarity.
Could it be a one-off that Mr. Randall was experimenting with, or a customer ordered design?
Thanks Warren for bringing this one to the forums.

Note, I didn't say it was a model 11, but could be something that looks headed that way. It also could be one off. In some respects, it looks like a model 19 also, but that would come almost a decade later. Look at the photo on page 210 in Gaddis and you will see what I mean.
