Another nice Randall article in the latest Backwoods Magazine, on a Model 1-7. For anyone that loves the outdoors, you need to subscribe to Backwoods.

When I used a knife regularly in a field environment (not just the desert, but also Ft. Stewart, Jackson, Bragg, Erwin, Dix, and Camp Williams) it was always my 1-7. I believe it to be the best of all. Not trying to incite discussion, it just worked great for me, every single time.

"So what makes the perfect knife? The truth is we would probably never agree. Tastes differ, skills vary, and needs diverge. Factor in wants, and there will never ever be an agreement", quote from said article. How true.

As always, it's in the eye of the beholder, or user. If I had to only have one Randall, it would be the Model 5-5 Bradford Angier in carbon steel. One that I have used for almost 50 years. But, my first Randall was a Model 1-7 as I thought I was going to Nam and wanted a fighter. Alas, I didn't go, but a great knife nonetheless.

Yes, that's the one. Charlie, the owner and editor, also will trade knives for subscriptions and the back page always has some of his cheapos for sale. Interesting fellow and a thought provoking read.
