Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model

Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/05/18 11:12 AM

The Sergeants model, prior to it's introduction into the Randall "non-catalog" lineup, was a dealer special. Stoddards of Massachusetts offered this model in former years. Of course, being Massachusetts, the top bevel could not be sharpened. Nowadays, the "TB" is standard, along with features as follows:
* Hand forged carbon steel blade
* O1 tool steel used
* 5 inch blade length
* 1/4 inch blade stock
* Thumb notches
* Brass single hilt
* Red, white & blue spacers
* Leather handle
* Duralumin butt cap
* Model A sheath, in tan leather
* Hone pocket, with sharpening stone (standard)
Tons of options are available to offer you a Sergeants "made your way"!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/06/18 11:52 PM

Following in Pete's footsteps, a few of my favorite Non-Cataloged Sergeant Models.

Beginning with a nice one mounted with beautiful figured ironwood supplied by a crusty game guide from Ocala FL who shows up here occasionally(?)

Still have the middle one available.

Kinda wished I had kept the last one, but it is in good hands down in Freeport, FL

Can't keep 'em all..........got to pay the invoice. ;-)

Here's another Sergeants, this time in my bone linen! Hope this "Knife of the Week" thread gets more members either:
A) Posting their photos
......or:
B) Ordering a few from "ME"! (Ha-Ha)

Where would the Sergent’s model fit in with my #19-4, my #23, and my big Stanaback Special?

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/09/18 08:28 PM

Here's mine - five options get used up way too fast.

Coach,

Picture tells the story. Someone like Billy or Captain needs to post all together to answer the question.

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/10/18 08:44 PM

Coach, my take would be right behind the 19..... but.... the word again... I've been incorrect 100's times before!

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/10/18 09:44 PM

Here is a picture of those 3 knives.

Think a Sergent's model would go between the #19 and the #23?

Great poker hand! 3 of a kind!!

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/10/18 10:48 PM

Hey Steve:

I’m thinking that a Sergent’s model would make it 4 of a kind!

Here's a 19 and a Sergeants for comparison. Different grind lines.

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/11/18 11:22 AM

Coach--

To show the sequence more completely, lay a Model 8 Old Style alongside your other three.

Larry

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/11/18 12:22 PM

I think it's the current style Model 8 that matches the basic design of the other 3. The older style has a curved blade vs the clip style of the current version.

Re: Knife of the Week: Sergeants Model - 09/11/18 05:40 PM

Mike--

Yep, I agree.

I got the two mixed up without going back to eyeball them.

The old style has too much curve to the clip to match up to the other models.

Captain Chris is a "hard act to follow".

Here's quartet of Sergeants Models, mounted in desert ironwood.

This is my favorite camp & carry knife.

Wanted to share my one and only Randall. And if I could just have one, it would be a Sergeants Model! Love everything about this knife! Hope to acquire a couple more this year so this one won't be so alone. Interesting thing about this one. . .the handle developed a pretty severe crack shortly after I ordered it. I put it away for about a year and a half. When I got it out, the crack had closed back up and now you can't even see where it used to be!
