The weather is bad for golf & good for knife care!

Some think it would be a daunting task to clean a large collection but for me it is a thrill to revisit every knife and to give them the proper care they deserve.

I usually clean nine at a time. Wrap each of them in a clean terry cloth towel soaked in mineral oil (generally 2-3 days). Wipe them down and clean the brass & copper fittings with Flitz and the NS and silver with Simichrome. Then a full thin coat of Renwax on the knife & sheath.

All display cabinets get Humidipots that are filled weekly with distilled water to keep them at a reasonable RH level throughout the year.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself Tom. I can see it now,"I can't play 18 today guys, I'm playing with 18 knives". LOL

Getting out this aft! Can't take it anymore.

Couple more pic's of some knives after cleaning and the little humidity pots that I keep in every display cabinet.

Tony,

The only thing is you can't have a nice glass of wine while doing it; James Behring has them all with a razors edge.

Golf is a game of good friends, bad shots, good drinks and cigars. Us old guys like it warm for that much activity LOL!

As for polish, how about what jewelers use for gold and other soft precious metals, as for non-scratching?

Works on the brass and nickel silver, and even removes light stains from high spots on blades.

Simple stick of jeweler's rouge, rubbed on an oiled cloth. A $7 stick will last, oh, only 15-20yrs or so, so, you might want to buy a handful.

Being a red oxide, it might be bad juju for aluminum when pressed hard on a high speed buffer where it could be imbedded in the metal, but have never seen such a thing happen by hand polishing.

As Father Fitzgibbon aptly observed, "Golf is nothing but a pool table moved outdoors."

If I told you once enough, stop crossing your eyes.
