General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/24/17 08:17 PM

Has anyone received theirs yet?

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/24/17 08:27 PM

I believed ONE person has... ...
Otherwise Capt. just took the orders at the Stock Sale then Blade. So April to now would be pushing it big time.
Buuut probably very soon on the first couple orders. That's my guess anyways

One person huh?

The Captain is a very generous man.

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/24/17 10:10 PM

What is this Wally? This is the first I've heard of this knife. Is it sold out?

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/24/17 11:05 PM

Ronnie, after examining and determining exactly what General Westmorelands knife was, Capt. Chris is offering the truest duplicate of it that the shop can reproduce. I think there may be a few left. There should be an article in the next newsletter.

I said one person. .. I was NOT out to name names...

I'm sure they'll start showing up soon enough.

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/25/17 02:29 AM

I really wonder about my memory, observations, what-not anymore. Kept wondering when we'd hear about the Generals Build......musta' missed the whole thing somehow. Oh well.

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/25/17 03:29 AM

I bet the Capt. will chime in soon... and I'm pretty sure there are many slots left to order. Sullivans will produce exact copies of the Johnson sheath, smooth button roughbacks with the pocket flap stitching outside... Stainless or O-1, Alternative Ivory or "Elforyn" (sic?) The elforyn is more expensive I believe, but in my opinion it looks more like ivory.

Something tells me I'm in trouble for running my big mouth.... crazy

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/25/17 05:52 AM

Thank you Wally. I think I remember something being said about this but I did not realize that it was in the works. I got a pretty nice copy of the General's knife but mine is a Model 1.....and Ivory.

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/25/17 07:30 AM

Yeah...There is a project being offered but it's too soon to go into it on the forums. In conjunction with the next RKCC newsletter, all of the specifics will be given. Wally is correct: Too soon, at present.
Patience, Capt. Chris
PS: "Plus"...The project was "supposed" to be offered to RKCC members only! As this will be the club's "2nd" club knife, all future info will be forthcoming..."BUT"...in the RKCC forum.

Got my Westmoreland today at our mailbox. We are on our way to a Willie Nelson concert tomorrow and I just opened up the package when we got in our hotel room. Still has the shop coating on the blade. Pic taken on the bed with an iPad!!!
Photo quality lower than my usual substandard.

Great looking knife and sheath. SN 028

Thank you RMK, Cap, Danny and Chris

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/14/18 04:37 PM

Received mine back in May.

Elforyn is nice and heavy, puts a good balance in the 6" blade considering there's no butt cap.

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 09/29/18 12:35 PM

I received this short email from General Westmoreland's son, Ripley, yesterday afternoon. He is traveling to visit family in various locales around North and South Carolina.

"Howard, thanks for that Knife Knews… I’m seeing mom this week end and will pass on!!

Rip

James R. Westmoreland
Attorney at Law"

Interesting to me that he intends to share the article on Westy's knife with his mother.

I've edited this post since I learned that I misspoke about Ms. Katherine Westmoreland's age.

A photo of the Westmoreland family in Vietnam. Gen. and Ms. Westmoreland's son Ripley made possible the hands on examination and photography that bought this project to fruition.

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 10/25/18 06:41 PM

Just in case anyone is interested, the Westmoreland's recently made another contribution to the SC Military Museum, here's a link to thier facebook post. The pistol should compliment the knife pretty well!

Beautiful, stunning knife! What does "CMI" mean, in the serial number?
Posted by: Matthias

Re: General Westmoreland tribute knife - 05/18/20 03:15 AM

Thank you. It's the crown of my collection.

CMI stands on my club-card. Perhaps the Capt. can explain?

I think: Club Member International? Am I right?
