Carving Knife Sets - 11/22/16 09:46 AM

As the holidays come around I keep looking at the carving knife sets. Anyone actually use theirs? How are they?

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 11/22/16 10:27 AM

I use mine during the holidays and they're great. I've added a steak knife and a 21 for turkey disassembly.
Looks like you've new here, welcome.

I like Warren use ours at Festive holidays. Does a great
job, if the operator does theirs.

I have been using a 10-7 for the same job, also works well.

Use mine frequently as the menu requires. Most Holidays/Birthdays/Any large gathering. Like others, I supplement with some other knives depending on the task and menu selection!

Steve
Food looks great, as do the pictures.

I got my Model 6 from Perry. I think of him
every time I use it.

Good Guy to think about! My son's Graduation 28 (2nd Randall I owned) came from Perry as well!

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 11/23/16 12:35 PM

What a beautiful set, Captain. I would love to get a Randall carving set but I have a carving knife and fork that was my Grandfathers that I will always use. Not close to Randall quality but it gets used often and the memories come back every time.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Chris,

Best looking Carving Set ever! Incredible Stag; love that you mixed up the end cap with butt plates.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and enjoy the day with your families!

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 11/24/16 07:28 AM

Tom,

Cap can correct me if I'm wrong but the knife is set-up like a 6-9 fillet, standard hilt and not reduced. It is one great looking set, I agree.

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 12/06/16 06:36 AM

Does anyone know when Randall may have used different forks with their carving sets?

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 05/30/17 09:39 AM

I see some sets with a butt plate, which is normally a $40 option. Is that x3 for a carving set?

Any other options possible?

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 05/30/17 10:45 AM

Eric, seems like everytime we re-order we get a slightly different version...

AR-Trvlr, yes, 3x the charge ..and check the catalog for options...too many to list

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 11/16/17 01:47 PM

I bought this Randall carving set in the recent Poulin auction. It's my second Bowles scrimmed set with yellow micarta handles and by far the most elaborate. It is RB #06 and was done in 1983. It even came with a certificate and a leather case. I will certainly carve my turkey with it next week!

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 11/16/17 09:54 PM

A 3-7 from the 70s does a nice job on a London Broil.
I like it sliced thin.
Would of posted a pic but mmmmmm

Re: Carving Knife Sets - 11/17/17 01:46 PM

Thanks, guys. I really like Rick's scrimshaw work. Here is the other carving set I have. Not so elaborate at the first one, but it does have a turkey on the knife handle! This one is not numbered.
