Al Mar Bulldog I, 2 3/8" blade, white micarta, marked USA Seki-Japan, Valade engraved 1980, and scrim work by Bonnie Schulte 1981. Purchased in a gift shop at Grand Central Station in 1985 for $450. A lot of money in 1985. I acquired the correct sheath shortly after I purchased it. Hope you like it.

It is beautiful and you are right $450 was a LOT of money in 1985.

I was coaching and teaching school in 1985 and bringing home less than $1000 a month.

Very nice and very expensive in 1985, for sure. Will not even mention military pay of that time, But, a gorgeous knife....lucky man, as anytime I was in Grand Central, the only stuff which people tried to sell me would be impolite to mention. The sheath would have been a miracle, I would think, all by itself. Would not think it too common, even then.

I made $440 a month in Feb. 1980 as an E-1. Jimmy Carter gave the armed forces a huge raise when he exited office. So by Feb. 1981, I was making $575 as an E-3. 3 hots and a cot, I only needed money for toiletries, dry cleaners and the Package store. I was the bank back then.

Lofty, I met my wife while doing joint service at Ft. Meade, MD. in 1983. She fell in love with my Air Force blues. 5 kids and 35 years later she still likes it when I try on my Old Blues. Damn the time flies, I can still remember waking up in Basic Training for the first time going where am I.

If you go back to 1980, a teacher in Texas made $8400 a year. I made an extra $500 a year for working 100+ hours a week coaching Football, Basketball, & Track. After taxes & insurance, I brought home $489. I paid $275 month rent for a shack way out in the woods.

I got a Hell of a windfall in 1988 when I got my first Athletic Director / Head Football job. AND, I married the PRETTIEST 2nd grade teacher in Texas that just gave me that #1-8 on my other post for Father's Day.

To put it in the words of my Uncle that fought in WW2, Korea, & Viet Nam, (and tried to re-enlist for Desert Storm), we were ALL wipin' poor asses in the 1980s.

PS. Eric, that is a damn nice knife!!!
