Lori was searching through images of Hal Moore and re-discovered this photo.
Then Col. Hal Moore wearing a model 2, reportedly given to him by General Westmoreland. It has been reported to be a 7 in. blade in a Johnson sheath, but my eyes lead me to believe it's a 6 in. blade in a Heiser sheath.

Looking at the handle, I think it could be wood or brown micarta. It seems like I recall someone mentioning the possibility of the handle being wrapped in tape. I'd love to know for sure!

Sorry Mr. C, the knife was stolen while in transit from Korea to Ft. Ord, CA.

If that is a "C" style sheath, which it has the appearance of, I think it would be a JRB Wally. Does that not look like a leg-keeper at the bottom? (Or is it just late in the day/early in the morning?)
Great photo! Any hint as to the date it was taken?
Best, Capt. Chris

Captain Chris, the keeper strap being horizontal led me to think Heiser. Also, the stone pocket looks to be high up on the body of the sheath.(doesn't the hilt appear to almost rest on the hone pocket flap?) Still, in the world of Randalls, you can never say never. I certainly defer to your expertise.

That sheath was part of the discussion in the old sheath debate threads back in 2015 I think it was. IIRC the sheath was determined to be a Heiser/HKL.

So...Joe: There is no "C" style at the bottom, i.e. paracord leg attachment?
Best, Capt. Chris

(Anyone) Did Johnson make "C" sheathes with horizontal keeper straps?
