Just obtained this from an estate and looking for info. The story "we all have one" is that this was carried by the ladies husband in WW2 and he kept it until his death.

WW2 era Springfield Randall in it's correct sheath, maybe carried "during" WW2, a little, but the reverse of the sheath is too nice to have seen much service, especially overseas or in the field. It's a nice knife. Maybe Tunefink or Crutchtip, or other expert will chime in soon.

I only know enough about those to say....that knife appears to be incredible!! the sheath...unbelievable
You have quite a nice knife there....that, with my limited experience in that area....don't let anybody talk you out of it!!!

Yes a nice WWII Springfield Randall. Looks like an early one to me. Made in 1943 most likely. Like Wally says it doesn’t appear to have been carried very much. Maybe he kept it in his door locker. Congrats on a great knife.

This may be intresting to some, and old news to others, nevertheless... although appearing to be a "left-handed" sheath, it's actually best carried "weakside", drawn right handed from the left hip, with the cutting side up, and the forefinger over the top quillon of the hilt, the knife's edged side offers the greatest cutting and thrusting power from what at first appears to be an awkward position. This was a soldier's decided method, and not a bad approach. This theory led to the current development of fighting knives that stands in practice and production today.

Theres a certain beauty and smoothness to those old knives that the new ones don't have. I guess 70+ years will do that. Welcome to the forum Hunter62.
