tunefink, That picture came from Soldier of Fortune or Gung Ho magazine. About 1985. There is another Randall picture in that issue also. I still have my copy. Can we say Copyright???

There is another photo of Gavin in the latest issue of American Rifleman. He is suiting up for Operation Market Garden jump on Sept 17, 1944. In the photo, you can see the rig that is in the museum photo above with both the 1911 and Randall clearly visible. This is the first time I have seen this particular photo.
Perhaps someone can scan it in and post it.

I'm sure everyone will remember this from the 'old' forum and the RANDALL KNIFE SOCIETY...Rick Bowles posted this image of his son...and the Randall Knife he took to War, and by the Grace of God... returned home safely with his Randall. I miss Mr. Bowles and all he brought to the old forum...oh well, that's another story.

Joe I talked about "Jumpin Jim" and his Randall and that photo many years ago in the RKS Newsletter. I think there are several other photos of him with it in some of the books I have on the 82nd in WWII.

Tom I believe that soldier is Rhodesian. I think that is Rhodesian camo he is sporting. That is a great photo. I have a good buddy that left the U.S. Army and joined the Rhodesian Army. He was fighting for them when the country collapsed. Fortunately he made it back home and reenlisted in the U.S. Army and served until he retired. Retired a CSM!

Tom I believe that soldier is Rhodesian. Rhodesian is correct. I dug a little deeper and found his blog. You know your stuff, Ronnie.

Ahh, Rhodesian camouflage...among the finest, most effective and distinctive ever fielded!
Americans would do well to carefully review the sordid history of the Rhodesian conflict. Such a shame that what was once the bread basket of Africa is now a fourth word nation run into the dirt by a megalomaniac Marxist, Mugabe.
Looks to be a #18-7" the troop is wearing.

Unfortunately Rhodesia does not exist any longer. Once the second most advance/industrialized country on the African continent behind South Africa, now it is a second rate country, Zimbabwe, with more crime, poverty, disease, etc., etc. You know the drill.

Put another way, what the USA can look forward to if nothing is done to stop, or slow, the agenda of B.H.O. (aka: Mugabe 'lite')

From the encouragement of Tom I will post an image of Blue Angel Lt. Dave Rottgering in his Blue Angels Grumman F-11F Tiger. He is holding his Model 18. 5 1/2 Crutch tip with a wrapped handle. The photo is from the photo boards just outside of the old Randall Museum that I shot several years ago. Love to know Dave’s story and his service. Did he pass this service knife on to a son? Did he go on to fly heavy jets for a domestic air carrier? By the way Lt. Dave Rottgering, thank you for your service.
Found this shot of Dave and his team in 1967. Before Paris performance, Blue Angels posed for a photo at Arc se Triomphe. From left: Lt. Fred Wilson, Lt. Vince Donile, Lt. Hal Loney, Capt. (USMC) Fred Craig, LCdr. Bill Wheat (OinC), Lt. John Allen, Lt. Red Hubbard, Lt. Norm Gandia, and Lt. Dave Rottgering (PAO).

Ronnie,
I didn't catch all of the different gear. I just thought it was cool seeing actual video footage of a Randall knife being carried in Vietnam.

Absolutely Tom. That was the best feature in that photo. But for a military history buff to see the different equipment still being used at that time is interesting. I have a lot of books on Vietnam history and it was always fun to go thru them in search of Randall knives. Actually found a few photos with Randall knives hanging on gear. Always a treat!

Mitchell, that was a great slide show. Does anyone know what happened to Gen. Westmoreland's ivory Model 1?? Sure would be nice to have it in the Shop historical items.

Tom, Can you provide some info on the bottom pic in this posting? (posted 2:04 PM the three guys sitting on a inflatable boat waterside one with a M203 launcher) I think I recognize the guy on the far right in the bottom photo. Could be a look alike but you never know. Thanks. Jim

Jim, Here is the website (scroll down about half way to Randall Knives). I had to "translate" it and I don't believe it states the names of the servicemen. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Pappy, Ever since these guys started posting the pictures of RMK's in service and continously seeing the General's Model 1, has made me want to make that my next ivory order. Then Mitchell has to rub it in by posting that older ivory 1. Guy really knows how to hurt someone Thank-you to Tom, Mitchell and any others, the service pictures (and knife pics) are great.

Sorry, but the knife in the first picture is NOT a Randall.
It must be a Cold Steel Trailmaster with Stag.

Here is the knife I was wearing. APFK with 7" CS blade, brass 14 style hilt, leather commando handle, all black spacers and rounded butt cap. I took the hone pocket off because I wear my sheath down the front pocket. It makes it easy getting in and out of stuff without getting in the way. You can set down on anything you want and its concealed when wearing your top.

Ali air base, wasn't it formerly called Tallil? I bet we've stood on top of the same ziggurat !

Wally, Yep it was Tallil, Seeing the Zig was pretty neat, I was lucky to get to go over, they had most everything locked down - we were taking quite a few mortar barrages that tour, luckily the local "insurgents" couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but they still wanted everyone within jumping distance of a bunker. Were you Army or AF?

Beretta 92, and a standard 1-7, not a care in the world.
